Hi, from a 45 year smoking vet

You can do this, try not to think of it as losing something, but as gaining something. My 67 yr old dad quit smoking in January using the inhaler and he barely uses it at all any more. If he can do it yall can too! And I understand about you having a harder time, it's because women are so emotional with their smoking, it is a learning experience, but it's well worth it. We can do this!

Hi Diane, I too have been a smoker for more than 40 years and am using Chantix. But the biggest thing that makes the difference is attitude. If I could give a gift, it would be to change the way we think of smoking, to "let go of" rather than "give up", to be positive about the quit, to choose to stop doing that rather than fighting the craves. If you truly CHOOSE to stop feeding this addiction, when the craves do come, it's really simple to wave the thoughts away. The habit, the accustomed feeling, goes away after a time, then become just random thoughts and you can easily think "that's what I used to do". It may be that you husband really has just DECIDED not to smoke, and that he IS having an easier time because of it. Men aren't always just macho, LOL. Hi fnd, Welcome to our group. You come to the right place. We are all here to help each other. I was a 30 year smoker. The 1st week was hard. I fond that ice water helps a lot. I have to do a lot of self talking and reframing, but it is wroth it. I love not smokeing. I don't have to go out back to light up like a druggie. I don't smell like an ash tray, I have more energry, and I love giving myself rewards for not smoking. the 1st 2 weeks I gave myself a small reward like bath oil, candels, a book. now I give my self weekly rewards. It is nice to celabrate the quit. You have the 1st week in and that is one of the hardest. Good for you. Take a look at the info in your glove compartment. I fond it great, This site has made all the differns between just anether quit and me becoming a non-smoker for life. Stay strong and keep your quit. Hi Diane!!! Wow, you're doing a great job so far!!! Welcome to the best place to be for thoughtful support in what we all hope is your LAST quit attempt!!! All of us were smokers and definitely know what you are going through and are here to help!!! I too, quit using Chantix, and it was a great tool to help me get started!!! It really minimized my craving, but it didn't completely eliminate them. The other thing that helped me was to go through the program and milestones and the workbook. Doing this has helped me get through the worse of the quitting process so far!!! Like Sylvie said, if you feel an urge, get on here and post and there will be several members ready to jump right in there to help you through it!!!! By the way, I'm betting that your hubbie isn't really having an easier time than you!!! My $10 says that he's having just as hard a time as you, but he's putting up the strong man face , as I have!!! Hi and Welcome to the site!! Great news that you have been smoke free for a week now. You have made it thru the hardest week, so there's some good news for you! What helped me was coming here daily and posting and reading as much as I could. I still come here daily - it really does work. Get lots of rest, your body and mind will need it. And find something to keep your mind and hands busy during those waking hours. Quitting is the toughest thing that I have done, but it's worth it. Wishing you and your husband the best on your quit journey.
