Can you trick yourself?

Just saw a light bulb go off :p You are doing it. I think it is call distraction. Boy a cup of hot chocolate is a lot better than sucking in junk. Enjoy the hot chocolate and maybe some cookies too. Of course you can do it, I Choose Life! You can substitute it for anything you want! Lots have done that with mints or chocolate or gum. Do whatever works. Hot chocolate certainly won't kill you, but smoking will! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 355 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,875 Amount Saved: $3,745.25 Life Gained: Days: 46 Hrs: 15 Mins: 28 Seconds: 40

i managed to convert my craving into a craving for iced water - i suppose by having iced water every time i had a craving i built up an association so now i just think i'm craving ice water elaine My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,000 Amount Saved: 372.50 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 15 Mins: 56 Seconds: 13

Just had a interesting theory and thought I'd see what you's think! Is it possible for you to trick yourself into thinking you're craving something else (a brisk walk, coffee, exercise, chocolate, sex!) I've been having strong cravings today and somewhere in the middle of them, I wanted a hot chocolate. I only ever drink hot choc before bed, so this had to be denied for a few hours but the self talk in my head was similar to self talk for cigs! Everytime I got a craving, I'd think of hot chocolate and the thought of cigs seemed to go away. Do you reckon that if every time you had a craving, you focused on something else, that you could trick your mind into thinking that you wanted the other thing? Just a thought! Not sure if it would work though!
