Della good post - great points. When I quit smoking it was because I was terrified I'd be "told" I'd have to quit and wouldn't be able to. Because with my panic I like to be in total control of myself I had to make sure I quit before the control was out of my hand. Now I've always been fearful about the anesthetic and any drugs is that 1) I'll lose control and 2) of course I'm worried about a fatal reaction......but reading your post I should change my thoughts to if I don't I could lose control and be forced into a worse situation. Got to start writing these patterns in my journal. I'm still afraid though (in fact I think I am growing those chicken feathers tooLOL) but its a lot early.

Hi Girls, I can respect each of your fears. Yes, I know they can be very hard to live and deal with. I too live with fears of my own. Please don't get upset with me. I'd like to ask if you believe the fear is stronger than your physical needs? I'd like to think you'd rather get rid of the physical pain while YOU have the choice to schedule its' demise. OR - are you going to put it off until it becomes a really big emergency, and have others in the ER or dentist office decide FOR you? While in the meantime, you fight your fear AND your treatment. Which is it? I'm sorry to put it in such harsh terms, but I'd like to stir your thoughts. Forgive me, Della

OMG I need to undergo some minor surgery coming up and anesthesia terrifies me!!! I don't know how to cope with it. I was begging the doctor today to let me postpone one more time and she doesn't want to do that. I honestly can't even look it up on medical sites because if I do I'll have a panic attack and I've still done wonderful since the New Year - no major attacks and really nothing over a 3 but I know if I do research it'll blow my record.

Grace, I have the same problem. My teeth hurt so bad and my gums too, but im so afraid of being knocked out that i wont go get this fixed. MY wisdom teeth are also the likely cause of a lot of my headaches. Fear is a very powerful emotion i tell ya

Hi Dee, Yes I've been knocked out (can't spell that word either!!) when I've had panic disorder. I was also on meds at the time so I was also worried about all the drugs reacting with each other. I was much better with my panic at the time but was still very nervous. I didn't like the idea of not being in control I think that's why I was so worried. I was getting an op on my nose to help me breathe better so when I woke up I was pretty uncomfortable but any discomfort or grogginess only really lasted the first day. I'm sure you will be just fine. Just think of it as you taking a nap, at least you won't be concious when they pull out your teeth, I can't imagine that would be very pleasant. My wisdom teeth need to come out soon and I'm dreding it so I would be keen to know how it all goes for you.

Hi, I have had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at one time. I had this done before I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder, but yes I was very, very nervous and scared. In my case it was a very PAINLESS process. It was done in the dentists' office, my Dad took me, picked me up, and made sure I was comfortable in my bed. I wore comfortable, loose clothing to my appt. My dentist gave me an IV and I don't remenber the procedure at all. When I awoke, I personally did not feel any pain. I'm glad I had them removed, because they were impacted. I'm glad I had it done. Hope this helps, Della from SC
