Monkeygirl, The members have answered your question over and over here. Hang tight, the first two weeks are the hardest. You've now moved from 'Hell Week' to 'Heck Week'. Now that your body has withdrawn from nicotine and is cleaning out the chemicals and toxins in cigarettes you'll have to start to put together some coping skills to deal with triggers and cravings. Come up with a list of things you can do instead of smoking. For example, going for a brisk walk, having a cup of tea, playing a game of cards or whatever else you can do to distract yourself and delay until the next craving comes. The cravings will gradually become less and less. Hang tight and keep us updated. Brenna, Bilingual Health Educator

Welcome, Monkeygirl and congratulations on your 9 days. As the other members say, it does get better. Would you feel better about NRT if you bought yourself the patch? It's more subtle than having to pound away at those pieces of gum and you might become less conscious of the need to keep pumping nicotine into your system. Just a thought. I'm so scared of all stimulants now that I even gave up coffee and tea!! I've even halved my dosage of Champix and have been skipping every other day altogether and I feel okay about it. A few extra thoughts which I can dismiss quickly but nothing to get me into a panic-driven craving... Stay strong ..... Hey MG, I just checked my cravings diary, and days 9 thru 12 were pretty rough for me too. To answer your question "when will this lighten up", well, your mileage may vary but, for me, it was soon after that. After day 12, I only recorded mild cravings, if any, and today (at day 50, woo-hoo!) I've stopped using the diary. I don't really have cravings per se - every so often the thought that I could quite fancy a cigarette will pop into my head, but it's quite easily banished. I guess the only thing you can be absolutely sure of is that it WILL get easier. All you have to do is keep your quit, and that will be your prize. I, and anyone else on this site who's made it through heck week will promise you that. Hi MG. Sounds like you are having a rough time today. I haven't seen you post before so I'm sure you are having a difficult time. I was always afraid to share my feelings, especially when they were not positive, but when I did my spirits always lifted a bit. In part I think from the people who care about us here and also in part because it is just plain good to get it out of you. You are not alone in your experience and please feel free to call out for a shoulder. Some one will always be along to lend a few words of encouragement and understanding. Congratulations on your decision and please stick around until you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You are doing this MG!!!! Hang in there !!! Welcome to the site!! I have to say that Day 9 was one of my hardest days. Not sure why, just was. So know that you are not alone, and just remember that you were sick during hell week and trust me, you DON'T want to go thru that healthy. Stay strong and know that it will get better, as much as i hated to hear that, it is true. Keep on posting and read all the info you can. Welcome to the group and hang in there. I cried and posted for the first two months and wanted to longer but thought I should put on Tresa's big girl panties. It is hard and it takes time. for me it was day 20. I knew I was going to be able to survive after that. I know that sounds like a long time but it may not take that many days for you to feel better. You will feel better if you just don't smoke. You may not have noticed but your cravings should already have subsided quite a bit after 9 days. Try munching on carrots and celery. Stay busy, you are on a roll! Welcome to the SSC monkeygirl. You've already got through hell week and my own nemesis, day 8, so don't pack it in, you've really come a long way! Your gums and teeth may be hurting as a withdrawal symptom as well as from all that chewing. It's not uncommon to experience sore bits on your tongue as well. My mouth hurt like hell when I quit but with every wince I remembered I was healing from 20 years of stupidity. Stick with it, keep a cold drink close at hand and let us know how it goes. Tomorrow you're in double digits, time for a reward! x T My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 414 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,522 Amount Saved: 2,277.00 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 6 Mins: 49 Seconds: 26

Hi and Welcome. I also quit on the 10th. Yesterday was a harder day for me. I was "craving" something.. didn't even seem like it was really nicotine. I have bottles of cold water in the fridge, and I learned 2 of my big triggers are getting hungry and getting tired. When you get the urge try to identify why.. what is going on, physically and emotionally. If you can get out of that situation, distract yourslef. It will go away in a few minutes. sometimes cinnamon candy helps, sometimes a few ice chips. I am going to pick up some sugar free popsicles today when I am in town. hang in there.. we have come to far to go thru hell week again. you can add me to your buddies list ( it is an instant messenger) I only have dial up service at home as we live in a rural community. I am also in Washington state. so not sure about time difference.. but hopefully we can connect up as buddies My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/10/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 9 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 153 Amount Saved: $24.10 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 8 Mins: 59 Seconds: 52
