Thanks for sharing. I am going to see my doctor and learn the steps to take to breathing better.

One of my biggest problems with my anxiety is breathing wrong. I became agoraphobic several years ago. After going to a great counselor and being told I was breathing wrong and taught the right way to breath, my anxiety decreased by about 70%. I got better for awhile but started having uncontrollable panic attacks about a month or two ago and am now on Zoloft and Klonopin (I will be weaning off the Klonopin in a couple of weeks.) Anyway, even though I know how to breath now, I still find myself with shallow breathing. For me I have to sometimes put one hand on my stomach and one hand on my shoulder. Then I concentrate on trying to move the hand on my stomach but not my shoulder. For me, though that is still focusing on my breathing, it also makes me concentrate on my hands. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. It is frustrating when I can't seem to get the breathing controlled and feel dizzy. Not much advice but I know sometimes it helps just to know someone else struggles with some similiar symptoms. Hope it gets better soon.

I also have the shallow breathing. I am 35 years old. I just recently had my first panic attack in almost 15 years. I first developed panic disorder when I was in my early 20's. At that time I didn't know anything about it. I thought I was dieing or going crazy. It took me almost 2 years to feel "normal" again. I didn't take any meds or anything because doctors kept telling me nothing was wrong with me. I was also afraid of medicine. Anyway, I dont' mean to get off topic. One of the first things that happen to me is the shallow breathing. It scares the hell out of you. You think you can't breathe, or you're going to pass out. But in reality you're not, it's only because that's all you focus on at the time.. The feeling may last for several days, or at least until you subconsciously realize that you can still breathe. I do take Zoloft now. I'm going on 2 months. It has helped tremendously. I still get very anxious at times, but I've not had a panic attack. I get the breathing stuff once in a while, but I try to redirect my thoughts. I don't know if this helps or not, but I sure understand what you're going through. Hang in there.

I was never one to have the shallow breathing problem with panic. But lately that is one of the biggest problems I face. Today at work it got so bad that I couldnt stop it by drinking water, stomach breathing, or walking. It made my dizzy & weak & I got upset. So I took 1/2 a 1mg pill of ativan. But it really has not settled me down any. I still feel like I am struggling for breath & I am more out of it b/c of the effects of the ativan. Does anyone have any other advice? I feel like all of this breahting & lightheadedness will cause me to faint..
