I have been there and done that! I have been taking paxil for a year now and I still have an occasional panic episode and I take a xanax and that calms me down. This panic thing is chronic...I suffered in the past and took a variety of meds and over the years weaned off then when life hit my like freight train BAM it came back with a vengeance. I just try to keep busy and focused on living life and having a positive attitude. It IS NOT EASY but who said life would be? I think we are very brave souls for posting our fears, failures and successes. You have all given me strength and the will to deal with a very frightening situation. I hope we all continue to move forward see our doc's and take our meds if necessary...the good life is worth it! Rose

The dizziness is very common in anxiety. You can have that without having a full-blown attack. The part where it says it only last for 10 min. or so is talking about the most intense phase of an attack. The other can continue for a very long time. I know this isn't too encouraging, but 2 weeks, even a month is not long enough for the meds to work. For some people it may, but for most, it takes at least 6-8 weeks. Just know that it will improve, if not, you may need to switch meds. Give it at least another month or two.

Hi! I ahve the same problem, recurring, some days I am okay and have low lwvel anxiety and other times the dizziness freaks me out and makes me feel weird. I have had this for soooooooooo long. I wont go to doctor for medical problems either, they scare me. I would be afraid if I had something serious. It's stupid. You replied to my post that your ears pop, it drives me nuts and after 2 years, I still put up with it. My doc always finds fluid in my ear when I go for sinus stuff and he puts me on antibiotics and decongestant that do nothing so I quit taking it. But if enough anxiety people like myself say they have it........the ear thingy,,,,,then I would feel better but so far you are the only one. thanks for your post and hang in there. I take Prozac but a low dose, I keep Xannax for the bad days. But mostly I try to stay busy and tough it out. I just accept it. My mother was the same way. Thanks and good luck to you! love Cj

Aries, I have the same type of panic disorder. When i get it i get it for a long time. I had to start taking meds so i could function normal again. I'm not saying that that is the only way you'll feel better. That was just what i had to do. I was good for four and a half years on zoloft, now i had a panic episode so they switched me to paxil now. I feel ****ty but i'll just have to adjust to the new meds and give it some try. I also am flunking out of this seemester which is making me feel depressed. But i just keep telling myself that my health is more important. Good luck. If you need to talk you can e-mail me : melisnl@aol.com

HI there Aries, I've been suffering with PD for over 16 years and the most troublesome side effect for me has always been the dizziness... Even on meds, i still get that 'wooshy' feeling and this is how i cobat it... I've learned that the reason i'm usually dizzy, lightheaded and generally out of it is usally due to shallow breathing.. see, when we're anxious, we tend to tense up, especially in the chest area and before we know it, we're shallow breathing and thats what starts the cycle... The best thing you can do for yourself is to take some nice, long, abdomal breaths.. don't breathe from your chest, breath from your tummy.. place your hand on your stomach while breathing in, count to 8 and slowly exhale, feeling your hand rise and fall with each breath.. I've been doing this for years and it works! give it a try.. Love, Cali

Hi Aries, Yes I have been going through the exact same thing for the past 6 months now. It started off with a full blown panic attack and grew into constant anxiety which includes daily, dizziness, spaciness, shaking and twitching. I finally realized after 3 months of this that it wasn't just going to go away, I changed my whole lifestyle and still have problems going far from home, its hard for some of my friends to understand why I am not the same outgoing person I once was. The spaciness and dizziness really gets to me sometimes, I have been practicing yoga, which is good but sometimes if I push too hard I get dizzy and lightheaded and then really shaky....it's really frustrating. I started taking Paxil about 2 weeks ago and it has barely just started working, I haven't had any panic since but still have off and on anxiety and have to fight daily against the spaciness. These meds take while to work properly, give it some more time. I have learn't over the past 6 months that so many people have this disorder, especially women in their 20's, it seems to be a growing epidemic. Have faith there are others who understand.

I'm new here, and i have most of the symptoms of panic disorder (so all my docs say) but everytime i look up info on panic attacks/disorder it says that it comes and goes lasting for only a short period of time, but for the last 3 weeks i am constantly dizzy, lightheaded, and kind of spaced out (disoriented), i have trouble with sleeping practically every night and its worse in the morning than any other time, does anyone else have this constant feeling that doesnt seem to go away??? i've been on zoloft for a 12 days so far but i'm scared its not gonna work, i am a totally different person since this came out of the blue 3 weeks ago and had to drop out of school for the semester because i can barely function....anyone that knows whats up with me please help...thanx
