How and When

Oh wait, I can even add to this. I am 34. I was 33 when it started. I ALSO can think myself into a panic attack. That was the biggest problem. THE FEAR of an attack would send me into one. The lexapo helped me so much and the Xanax was a back up in case I could not help but have one. It nipped it in the bud when it started. I am now off the Lexapro but I took it for a good 8 months.

your story is almost exactly like mine. Exactly. One year ago this month, I took an ambian to sleep. It caused a major attack. Heart/chest pain..sweat, sick to my stomach, arm pain and I could have sworn I was having a heart attack. I had never experienced anything like it. From that time on, I had panic attacks. Never had one before that night. The firs three months following that first episode was the worst and eventually led to getting on Xanax and Lexapro both of which helped me a great deal. It has now been just about a year and I am slowly winning this battle. I still feel the panic come on, but I am learning to beat it. I think I just became so disgusted with them that I am fighting back and saying "I have not died in a year, I am not dying this time".

You hit the nail right on the head. I keep worrying about if I will have a panic attack again. This is fear that I am having, which can bring on panic like symptoms. My md has suggested Lexapro, but I fear that I might never get off of it.

Tommy, Many people have panic attacks periodically, but not panic disorder. In my opinion, I think you fit this category, as your first attack can be deducted from the fact they you had been experimenting with amphetamines at the time. Also your next attack wasnt till 3 weeks later. You may be currently suffering from the "fear" of the attacks, but are not experiencing them. To answer your question, mine began about 14yrs ago, and would persist to having them 2-3 times daily.

I am new here and would like to ask when your panic started. Mine was this year. I had experimented with an amphetamine and had a major attack. I thought I was dying and this went on for hours as I was alone and didn't want to call 911. Several times I felt like I was going under but didn't. Three weeks later I had a major panic attack and have been struggling with them ever since, however they have gone away. The reason for my question is that I am trying to figure out if I am just suffering from PTSD or a true PD? I was 32 years of age when this happened
