I don't really seem to have the hand- oral fixation. My thing was to have the smoke in my mouth and lungs, as crude as it sounds. I smoked for a fix and not so much as a social thing.
Yes, Lori, water for sure. Also, coffee straws were a big help to me in the car.

Lori, like sticken says water. I always have water with me. Also you may want to chew on a straw, that helps and no calories.

I've been having some cravings but not overwhelming. I can now drink coffee without going crazy for a smoke. In the morning, It's not as bad as I thought. I was a wake up and light up type of guy even before the coffee sometimes. I feel glad to be a non smoker.
Thanks for the support and advice everybody. I think part of the problem is that because my quit has been going so well up to this point, that these big cravings have been knocking me up side the head each morning. I am grateful that this feeling doesn't last all day.
Driving in my car is proving to be my biggest trigger so far. Sure wish I had the option of taking the bus for awhile!

I switched to decaf coffee. It helps. Still get that longing but then I remember--hey I don't do that anymore so instead of a cig break I get the sink and stovetop clean or something where my hands are wet and busy. Also use a straw to suck on. Keep up the good work!

Lori,
You've received some great responses from you fellow members! I can only echo them. This is a strong association for many, including your brain.
Break it by changing your routine and your brain will learn to associate that cup of coffee with other things.

Lori, I have read what others wrote and they gave you some good advice. Then I was thinking about what I do and did. I get up grab a cup of coffee and turn my computer on and come to SSC and check up on people :eg: Just don't smoke and you will do fine. Glad you are here.

Yea, aloha, I realize that some people like to scrub things. But we're talking to Lori here & we have no reason to believe she is a crazy person. Lol!
You have lots of suggestions to try, Lori. I'm sure something will work for you. Just keep it up, you're doing great!
