social smoker question?

16 years ago 0 598 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
She should talk to her dr. about chantix..it is a non nicotine product. Alot of folks on this site have really been helped by chantix. Her urges will be at very specific times because of her social smoking routine. She may need to quit drinking for a while and avoid situations where she normally would smoke. She would benefit from the online program here at scc. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 102 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,448 Amount Saved: $510.00 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 2 Mins: 35 Seconds: 41

Seems to me that Allen Carr said it was difficult for this type of smoker to quit since each cigarette is very very precious to them. It's easy for us former heavy smokers to discount an addiction to one smoke a day but it may be really difficult for your friend to give up just that one. Like John, I suggest she simply stop cold turkey, this will at least show her whether her addiction is serious or if she really is just a social smoker. If that proves to be "impossible" then a NRT might be considered. I agree with Anna. She does not need to smoke so a patch which gives here Nicotine all the time would be the last thing she should do. No Cigarettte, No gum, no patch. Change routine, go for a walk or something after dinner. Stop drinking till she breaks the cigarette routine. I agree with UH on this one. Tell her to just start having a mint after dinner.. (change her routine from a smoke to something else) I would think a patch would be more nic than she is used to. :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 239 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,585 Amount Saved: $1,003.80 Life Gained: Days: 22 Hrs: 4 Mins: 15 Seconds: 55

Hey, Bobbi. It says on the box which strength you should start with, by how much you smoke. I wonder if your sister-in-law shouldn't ask her doctor though. It doesn't seem like the best idea for her to start putting nicotine into her body every day if she is just an occasional smoker. There is probably a better way for her to quit.
