thyroid

I have Thyroiditis, the body is attacking the thyroid; and hypothyroidism also. I take medication for it every day. But the Internal Doctor also sent me to a phsychiatrist for anti-depression and sleep medication. With both types of medications I am able to maintain somewhat of a balance, but I do believe that the whole body is connected in many ways and that these problems I have, plus other medical problems and emotional trauma from the past have damaged my nerves. So I try meds., therapy, and any information I can get that might help...like this site.

JM, WOW!!! I'm very happy for you!! It sounds weird to say but I truly hope that this is the cause of the panic attacks for you. Wish that it was that easy for all of us. Mine came back fine.... as I expected. Oh well, I wish you the best of luck. Rachele

JM, I understand your wanting to find a physical cause for your suffering. I have always thought how much easier it would be if it was just a broken bone or something. In a way though it is physical, chemical imbalance in the brain or whatever. I hope you find the answer you need. I wish all of us would find a quick cure, like an injection or something. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Rachele

hey Rachele i really believe panic disorder and depresion must have a cause in the body,i am not only looking into my thyroid but also lack of the amino acid tryptophan.no meds seem to be helping my condition, but for some people the meds do work. but for me i must look for alternative answers

JM, I too have heard of this and, like yourself, just read an article about it a couple of days ago. I went to my gyn yesterday and spoke with her about it and she agreed the article was correct! Apparently there is a whole panel of tests that can be run for thyroid but most commonly they only check one factor instead of the whole huge (expensive) panel. Anyway, my doctor agreed to run a more extensive panel for me, though not the whole thing cause she says she has been "caught out" before by thyroid issues with patients. Honestly, I don't believe I have a thyroid issue, in my heart of hearts I know this is just panic.... after 12 years I'd be surprised to hear anything else, but she agreed to check it just in case. I would say speak with your doctor about it and ask him/her to run a more extensive panel, even if they do it only to put your mind to rest. Good luck, Rachele

i have heard that a major cause for anxiety and depresion are overlooked thyroid problems. i reacently came across a article that said that throid blood test are very unaccurate, because they will only show a problem that is way off the charts. has anybody heard about this???
