I have a dilemma

16 years ago 0 672 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
cj, It's good to get along with the neighbours so i personally wouldn't do anything to compromise this. If i was you i would leave my windows & doors wide open, go get & place some nice smelling pot plants / trees / flowers inside & out + have some anti-smoke cigarette spray handy for inside. fyi, i still like the smell of cigarette smoke (however stale it may be) because it brings back nice / happy memories. The key is not to dwell on the ciggie thoughts. + smoking in not acceptable in society anymore. Tom is right. Could be a recipe for disaster if you aren't good pals with your neighbors. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 175 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,375 Amount Saved: $1,846.25 Life Gained: Days: 21 Hrs: 10 Mins: 32 Seconds: 50

If you have a good relationship with your neighbor, ask her not to smoke near your open windows. If you don't have a good relationship with her then close your windows. Cj3470, You've gotten some great responses so far and the truth is, you can't banish all smokers. They'll always be there. See this as a challenge. Let it strengthen your resolve and when times get tough, breathe through your mouth? :) The fact that you can smell them may be due to the fact that your senses are heightened and this will calm down with time. Hang in there and employ those coping strategies as you feel the need. Remember, you're not depriving yourself. You're given yourself the best gift: freedom. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

CJ, it isn't easy to quit when someone around you smokes, but it is doable if you are truly committed to quitting. My husband smokes and never let up one bit. As MasterMind said, it really made my resolve stronger because I decided to quit despite him. However, I'm wondering if you can use a directional fan until it's time to close your doors and windows? You are lucky it's getting cool out...we are still hovering around 100 down here! In any case, don't let the Junkie You convince you that this is a reason to go back to smoking...you can get through this! well, you can't control the actions of ppl but you can definately choose how you will respond to them ... this is a quote from steven covey best seller 7 habbits of highly effective ppl.. my husband is a smoker and on my 6 day of quitting he came home and insisted to smoke right in the same room I was sitting watching TV .. although i asked him repeatedly to not smoke at home .. he told me you have to have a strong will , if you decided to quit , stick to it , dont let any one affect you !! , although i dont like what he did , but him insisting on smoking infront of me, made me insist and persist if not for anything else , just for the sake of proving a point to myself that i can make it at worst case senarios .. I chose my response , i chose not to be a vcitim , this line of thinking is helpful , remind yourself that you can choose your response and choose not to be affected with her smoking believe me it works!! , best of luck and hang on there it is worth it!! I have a dilemma. I live in a townhouse where the houses are very close together, and my neighbour is a smoker. She smokes in her back yard. The smoke finds its way into my house, right up to my nose. I never could smell it before. But now! Oh boy do I ever smell it. Ive tried keeping the back door and windows closed, but I still seem to smell the smoke. Im not sure how it gets in the house. This neighbour is a good friend of mine, and shes supportive of me quitting smoking, but I dont think shes that supportive that shell leave her yard to smoke. She doesnt smoke in her home because of her children (one child has asthma). So far, for the most part, the smell of the smoke has made me want to vomit. But occasionally I get that craving, and I wonder if Im going to be able to handle the smell of smoke in my own house. There are a lot of smokers in the neighbourhood, and when they walk by my yard, the smoke wafts in the window. Maybe its a good thing its getting cooler out, and I wont need to keep the doors and windows open much longer. How do those of you who live with smokers handle the smell of smoke in your home? I will not smoke! I dont want to smoke! I am a non-smoker!
