Alcohol and Xanax

I have also just started to take Xanax and my Doc told me not to drink while it is in my system, however I only have to take it when I feel an attack coming on. I am curious as to if I can drink on non-Xanax days (although these are becomming fewer and fewer)

Al, Thanks for contacting us. First you need to talk to your doctor about XANAX. What are the side effects, proper dosages and what can be mixed? This will give you a better idea about the medication you are taking. A well informed mind makes well informed descions. From http://www.drugs.com/xanax.html, it indicates to "Avoid alcohol while taking Xanax. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by Xanax." Again please check with your doctor, every individual is different. Hope this helps, Josie
