A gate swings both ways. An entrance is also an exit. When you think about it, there really is no such thing as an entrance. You are already somewhere, when you go through the gate, you are just going somewhere else.
Perspective can be a powerful tool.
Imagine that the door to the mall is not an entrance to the mall, it is an exit from the parking lot. We exist in a word full of entrances and exits and they all go somewhere. If you rationalize it that way, the "entrance" should no longer be a problem...view everything merely as a portal to somewhere else. Then you arent "going into" a space at all, you are simply going somewhere else.

I guess I can relate. For me - however - it's mostly what I'm going to [b]do[/b] while I'm in there. I can usually handle it pretty well, I wait for the raised heartbeat to calm down / ignore it. I usually ask someone / look where the toilet is. It helps me to know where to go IF I get panicky to calm myself down, to be alone for a minute or two.
Hi Chanda, I don't have a fear with entering gates but I guess that would be the same as entering a grocery store, mall etc. In therapy, I learned to do it in baby steps. Start by visualizing yourself at the gate then go through the gate and stay for 10 min next time go through the gate stay for 10 min then sit on a bench. Gradually build it up until you feel comfortable. I hope this makes sense!! Rhondda
Due to my fear of being trapped I have a huge problem with going through gates/entrances to places.
This is 1 of my biggest avoidances also.
Any time I go through a gate I feel like "OK NOW I'M IN HERE" & thats when it all starts & I have a hard time with it. (concerts, amusement parks, new buildings that I'm not comfortable with,etc.)
Then once I get through the gate I don't want to move far fom the EXIT & I'm constantly looking for an escape route in my mind.
Does anyone else go through this over just entering a gate??????
