Hi Jen.
I remember feeling just as you do. I hope you didn't go to that gas station. I didn't think I could quit and stay with it but I did.
Some of the things that helped me were sucking on peppermint, take a lot of deep breaths, punch a pillow, kick, scream, cry, just don't smoke! The only way to get over it is to go through the withdrawals.
One thing I told myself early on was that "Everyday is one day closer to never feeling this way again". If you smoke, you have to start all over again and what are the chances of that? See..... just hang on and don't let go. YOU CAN DO THIS!
We all feel insane when we quit. For some the sanity comes back and for others it doesn't :) Don't worry about it. You are breaking an addiction and entitled to a bit of insanity for a while.
Take a shower, find a new hobby, read a book, do a jigsaw puzzle, write, read the posts on this site. You are going to be just fine.
