I think I'm the only person so far in the world who's "failed" at using Champix. I've now been on it for 3 months and been through several quits since April. I was so excited to start using it that I was literally the first person in my town to get a prescription when it got approved in Canada. But instead of finding myself cutting down in that first week, I found myself smoking more than ever and I think it's because I wasn't getting that buzz that I used to get. Make sense? (Excuse me if I'm rambling). Anyway...thanks for all your advice...I really appreciate it. I know now that no matter how I prepare, no matter what NRT I choose or don't choose, it's just going to be a matter of being strong, going for it and fighting through whatever comes my way to be successful. So, wish me luck. Monday's coming up soon. :8o:

Hi Itstime, No offense towards the site and it's methods because they have obviously worked wonders for many people. But in regards to cutting down before you quit, This can make it far worse for a lot of people. Since my quit, only a month now, I have talked to many, many smokers, ex-smokers and failed quitters as I try to learn as much as I can about quitting. That is my way of doing things. I dive in head first and learn everything I can about the subject until I almost feel like an expert. This does not make me an expert here just sharing somethings I have learned and my opinion... I will tell you that around 95% or even more say they did not cut down before quitting. In fact I can't recall any one saying they did this method that was still quit. (I'm not taking notes just trying to learn everything) I did not cut down. In fact my last night I shoved an extra 10-12 smokes down my lungs just to piss me off. Here's the thing. We are all different and for some cutting down plays the role of the demon. When you cut down you are using willpower to go a certain amount of time without a smoke and then once that time is up you can and "reward" yourself with a cigarette right? This can be very dangerous. This just reassures your mind that you are dependent on these things, that you want them and need them and that you cannot go without them because they are what make you feel normal. You make it even harder in my opinion. Again there is a lot of great advice here and mine is just my opinion from what I have heard along the way. Anyway you do it, just do it... I hope I do not upset an mods as I really am not trying to bash the program. I love the site and it works wonders for many. Just wanted to share an opinion that is wide spread in the quitting arena. Hi Linda, I am an all or nothing kind of person so cutting back wasn't practical for me. For some it works great. Don't beat yourself up about smoking that pack - just consider it a practice run. Use it to learn what the "real" quit will be like. You don't have to answer these but think about what made you smoke. What will you do the next time that happens? What other things could you do instead? Preparation and a positive attitude will go a long way. Try to get excited about quitting. Think of all the things you hate about smoking and know that you'll be walking away from many of them on Monday. Hi It's time I agree that you have to find what works for you, and trying to remember what worked with your 7 month quit is probably a good place to start. Have you taken a look at the program tools here, esp the workbook? Those are excellent helps. I used champix too, and found that to be key in my so far success. I didn't purposely cut down before my quit date, but found that I was smoking less after beginning with the pills. I think the main ingredient in a successful quit is the determination to not smoke, really really wanting to be smoke free more than anything else. This site, with the wonderful support and knowledge, has also been a major factor for me, and many others, in remaining smoke free. hello Linda, welcome quit is different for each one of us, you are the one who knows what works best for you. You did it before, and you stayed quit for 7 months! You remember the strategies you used back then?? You remember how you handled the cravings when they hit hard?? it is a long time to stay quit! You can do it again. Some say you should not try to reduce the amount you smoke before your quit day, and it is working with some people, l dont think it is making any difference if you quit in the end. Either way the first few days are difficult, and as time goes it will get easier. Good luck!!

Hi everyone. I've been a member of this site for a couple of weeks now and am kind of worried. First a little background: I'm 40yrs old, smoke a pack (25)/day and did manage to quit a couple of years ago for 7 months.Got overconfident and here I am. I've tried absolutely everything to quit. You name it - I've tried it. So I found this site, set my mind to being serious about this quit and began following the suggested steps to cutting down before my quit day which is Monday, the 16th. I went from 25/day to 20, 15 the next day and so on until yesterday when I was down to 8. By this point, it was starting to get difficult. Then today, I totally blew it and ended up smoking a whole pack. Do any of you think that I'm on the right path? Or am I just slowly putting off the inevitable? I really want this more than anything and I'm so sick of failing. Any words of wisdom are very appreciated. (I am taking Champix by the way) Thanks, Linda
