Complete Frustration

Bear, Having been with you from your day 1, I have watched you search, struggle, battle demons, question, inspire, and now, philosophise. You are a wise old bear, and much appreciated here at the SSC. Keep doing what you are doing, you are so needed! Great post bear! Like people keep telling me here, everybody's quit is different. You and I have it easy not because it is easy but because we worked at it, we did our homework and we are relentless in the pursuit of our goal. There is no need for any guilt because others, different others, do not experience what we experience. We deserve everything we have, we deserve to sit back and enjoy what we have done for ourselves no-one did it for us, we did it for ourselves. Be proud Bear! We could walk away from here, job done, but we stay. We stay because we want to help but all we can do is encourage and cajole; we can lead the horse to the water but we cannot make it drink, we can just hope that it might and that is good enough for me. Good luck bear, you are a good man. Bear, I'm a big believer in actions speaking louder than words. Just trying to reach out to help someone shows that you value what they are going through and what they are saying. Also, just like your cigar convert - we never know the impact small things can have on people. I think that you have stayed quit for 100+ Days after not being sure about quitting is incredibly encouraging to the hundreds of people who read these posts! What a big bear heart you have :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/5/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 1068 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 21,360 Amount Saved: $4,806.00 Life Gained: Days: 81 Hrs: 12 Mins: 13 Seconds: 2

Bear, it can be frustrating sometimes to want to help more than we really can. As everyone else has said, we are each responsible for our own quit & must decide if we will drink when led to water. The beauty of this site is that although each of us must make our own journey, we all have someone ahead of us to lead the way, someone behind us to catch us if we fall, and someone beside us to lean on. We can each be all of those for each other, it's all we can do & it's enough. nice post Bear I, too, feel that helplessness at times, but you're right, while we can share the journey, it is each individual's journey. And each person has to find the strength to weather the difficult challenges of their particular journey. Finding that inner strength is part of the joy in this process. -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 108 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,320 Amount Saved: $734.40 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 3 Mins: 56 Seconds: 26

Well said bear, i too wish i could just reach through my screen and grab on to some of these people and just let them know i care and they can do this, its always hard to put into words, if there was a way i could call them all on the phone i would, and talk them through the bad times. you are right we can help but then they have to have control of the quit and that takes reaching deep. Thanks for your post, iam sure everyone here knows how much you care :) have a wonderful day. Thank you bear, God's word says much the same thing. In essence it says... that we help eachother carry one anothers burdens....but....each one must carry his own load. (Galations 6) So we can compassionately help one another....but we can't do it for them. Our spiritual enlightenment comes from realizing that Christ resides in us and through Him all things thus become possible. Your the best bear..just the best!! Over the last couple of months I have suffered from complete and absolute frustration to the point of guilt.I have watched many of you stumble and fall and some of you go through the pain of quitting and I have stood by feeling absolutly helpless.I kept hoping that I could say or suggest something that would help you through your difficult time but it just did'nt happen. Then I rememered something I had read a long time ago.In Zen Buddism they say that the highest that man can achieve is "spiritual enlightenment" but in order to arrive there you must get there by yourself.I can travel with you but when you are thirsty or hungry you must drink and eat for your self these things I can not help you with.So as you travel the road to freedom you must reach deep within yourself to arrive the best I can do is travel with you .
