losing my voice?

I had the same thing! Still a little with the "heavy" chest in the morning, but it was worse when I smoked, and with the dizzy/spacey. That finally went away for the most part last week for me - 3 weeks in. It doesn't last forever! Anyway, just thought I'd add my few cents, since the same was happening to me, but it's getting better and better everyday. NOPE!!!! -Nilbey My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 29 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 725 Amount Saved: $195.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 0 Mins: 19 Seconds: 6

Thanks everyone! This helps a lot. I think I'll try to drink more water... maybe even buy myself a fancy margarita glass (like the one in your cartoon Unhooked:) and see how many times I can fill it in one day! (raise a few eyebrows around the house:) The tight chest in the morning was less today. It probably is just healing. I will call my Dr. if it gets too weird. I also tried to sleep more, and that helped. When I think of it, I had more scary things happen to my body when I was smoking. I just didn't expect odd pains while healing. Those discomforts are what made me run back to cigarettes in past quits so I could feel normal again. Now I know better, thanks to you guys:) The new normal feels pretty good so far! I kind of liked my alto voice before, hope it's not too high by the time I heal or the dog may not take me as seriously:) Jana, it's so great to hear from you - especially since we're so close on our quits... I'm so happy for you that you're doing this at 37. I'm 46 and wish I would've done this long ago. For one thing, you'll get to keep your lovely skin longer!:) I still feel disoriented too. I was running errands yesterday, and found myself standing in a store trying to remember what I needed there. (Could be my age too:) I've been trying the breathing exercises anytime something feels weird or if I have a craving or smoking thought. It relaxes me into thinking better... Another thing I try at home are frequent walks, even if they're short. I used to sneak outside to smoke and get away for some alone time, so now I give myself the same break by walking instead. Kind of trying to re-train myself step by step... If everyone here is right, this disorientation will pass. So far each day seems better than the last as far as body well being. Our minds may take a little more work. I hope you keep posting:) I check here every day... Thanks again everyone! mamakitty My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 210 Amount Saved: $56.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 12 Mins: 24 Seconds: 36

The changes seem to take different times with different people. I get that wierd running out of breath before the end of a sentence thing. Still. But I was told that was 'normal'. The dizzy, spaced out feeling seemed to go on with me for w e e k s But now I feel almost OK! Hi Mammakitty! I had trouble with my throat too. My voice changed, it was dry and lower when I smoked and came back to normal at about 2-3 weeks. It still amazes me how many things cigarettes affected in our bodies and how we thought it was "normal!" :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 112 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,800 Amount Saved: $1,181.60 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 17 Mins: 21 Seconds: 38

Mamakitty: ME TOO! I don't have the problem with my throat, but the tight chest is really bothering me. I keep reading that it can be anxiety and such, but as soon as you wake up?????? I also read several posts that say it is your body healing. Doesn't feel like healing to me either. Makes me feel a lot better that someone else has this too. I believe it is better than it was a few days ago. I also am still having huge problems with the spaced out feeling/disoriented. I felt fine earlier, but like right now I feel almost a little dizzy and not quite with it. I am at 13 days..... when will I feel normal again???? Sorry Mamakitty. I am no help at all. Well maybe it makes you feel better to know you are not the only one and it is probably normal. LMAO! mama, Each quit is different and yours will be unique! This is quite common and water and rest can help. If it persists, than check with your doctor to rule out anything medical :) Josie, Support Specialist

Hi, mamakitty. You're doing great. I have had the throat problem in previous quits, not this one. I think the difference might be the truly ridculous amount of water I've been drinking but I don't know. As I recall, it lasted quite awhile, maybe a month or so. I have also had the heavy, tight chest in the morning, it only lasted a couple of days & I don't know what caused it. Not much help, am I? :) If you're worried or you really don't feel right about something, it never hurts to see a doctor. Hang in, you have an awesome attitude! It seems like the last few days, my voice drops out and crackles when I'm talking and I have to keep clearing my (dry) throat. It's mostly just annoying... I had the sore/hot throat for awhile, but this is new. Has anyone else had this happen around the 11 day mark? I also wake up each morning with a heavy feeling chest, like I smoked too many cigarettes the night before. Is that normal? Any idea how long? Everything else seems to be going really well, and today I only had a few craving moments. I've been keeping myself super busy, and taking our dog on walks (she really loves me now:) I'm secretly really pleased with myself for making it this far. I'm amazed at how good I feel compared to my quit day! Thanks in advance for any advice, mamakitty My Milage: My Quit Date: 6/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 13 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 195 Amount Saved: $52.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 28 Seconds: 39
