What are visualization excercises

Hi Mudslinger, My therapist has talked to me a little about this & if I'm not mistaken a visualization exercise is when you visualize yourself in a specific situation until you are no longer anxious about it. For example one for me is elevators & I do the following: "picture" myself walking up to an elevator in a relaxed state & repeat until I'm not anxious. Then picture myself actually getting into the elevator with no anxiety. Then visualize riding in an elevator with no anxiety. And so on... After you have broken this down into very small steps & you're comfortable with the "visualation" of the event, then you actually attempt to do it in the same small steps that you've been visualizing. Usually this requires a good amount of relaxation along with the visualatin exercises. Such as deep muscle relaxation & breathing exercises. I hope this helps to answer your question.
