Anne You're doing great!!!! For the sitting at the computer times...try a cut straw...you can do all kinds of things with it....hold it like a cig, breathe in and out like you were smoking it, chew on it, etc etc..and no calories!....lol...I used to reward myself with spoonfuls of yogurt, lowfat cottage cheese, and sometimes, ok...too often, peanut butter. Also a cold drink of water feels so much nicer than yucky old cigarette smoke in your mouth. Things will get better...really soon. Just keep telling yourself what a wonderful thing you are doing for yourself...now that you're a nonsmoker ;p Keep up the good quit! -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 80 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,200 Amount Saved: $544.00 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 4 Mins: 18 Seconds: 38

Almost the end of day 2!!! Today has been really hard, but I've managed .. The strawberry hard candies and I are engaged .. the cats are getting surly because there aren't as many gum balls to bat around anymore and my thumb is starting to look good as a substitute for celery & carrots. I was a 3 pack a day smoker .. essentially a chain smoker .. especially when sitting at computer so the habit of smoking is probably more ingrained than the nicotine addiction. But I'm happy to report .. no slip ups or deliberately standing next to smoking people. I'm just scared I'm going gain 50lbs before the urges go away. Well, I cheated in my dreams .. but I only smoked 1 cig and felt bad afterwards .. the funny thing was, as I was smoking in my dream, I was in my car and saw three accidents and one took out the stop light at an intersection .. now what would dream analysis have to say about that lol ... In waking life, unless I sleepwalked down to the convenience store I'm still smoke free!!! Yaaaaaaa. The cat's are still batting gum balls around and I've stepped on at least 6 of them .. they hurt if you are barefoot. Those strawberry filled hard candies have become my favorite food too ... woops .. just started to grab for the ciggs but stopped myself knowing they arent there. I think that is going to be the hardest part about this, not smoking at computer. But I must say it's really nice not having to blow ashes out of the keyboard. Anne I've been on chantix for almost three months now. It messed with my sleep as well, but then again I am kind of a weird sleeper anyway. Some nights couldn't go to sleep, other nights woke up in the middle of the night. I figured it was worth it for the help it gives me in staying away from the smokes. Yes, on the receptor answers.. When nicotine,or chantix, binds with the certain recptors....something like niconoids, but that's not quite it, they in turn stimulate dopamine output...i think that is the mechanism. In any event, the chantix replaces the nicotine in your brain, rather than in your bodyas NRTs do. You are doing fine...just don't slip on those gumballs...lol -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 79 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,160 Amount Saved: $537.20 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 0 Mins: 22 Seconds: 26

Congratulations on a smoke free day! The Chantix is a wonderful aid...and the dreams to me were free entertainment. I miss them now. After a week or so your body should become acclimated to the medication and you won't notice anything...except the great dreams if you're lucky. If you have any unpleasant side effects, please check with your doctor. Chantix isn't for everyone, but for many it is almost a miracle drug. Good luck. I've done a lot of reading here at the site and elsewhere. Smoking causes the release of so much dopamine in your brain that many of the centers in the brain that make this chemical stop making it because there is too much. When you stop smoking, it takes a long time for these centers to start making the chemical in normal amounts. Just as Carylene stated, the Chantix helps normalize the release of dopamine until your brain can do this by itself.
