newme Very good going at work....that planning ahead really helps, doesn't it? And ignore the woman that went back to smoking...what a dweeb. and...Happy Birthday a few days late!!! Oh...and did I congratulate you on your first smoke-free week? If not, I am doing it now. You are doing great! radar, Unfortunately, I think you're just going to have to work on your quit, and hope your husband is inspired by it. We will support you..and you can't sneak our cigarettes...because we don't have any!...lol -aloha My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 74 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,960 Amount Saved: $503.20 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 8 Mins: 5 Seconds: 19

Hi Radar, You are right. You need to concentrate on your quit. He needs to find his own way out of his addiction. He hears himself cough; he knows how bad it is...didn't you? I did; that cough scared me silly. You, however, will be an example to him. If I was you, I would have a serious talk with your hubby. I would want him to keep his cigs out of my sight. Leaving them laying around the house is not good. Early in our quits you can't know when those craves are going to hit us. And, if you have one of those craves and those cigs are right in front of your face???? I would not want that. I've been there with my hubby (who i am separated from). I would quit. he would be very considerate about not smoking in front of me, etc. But, i would get one of those heavy craves and I knew where he kept his cigs..out in his truck. It was too much for me at the time. Anyway, don't nag at him. Just let him see you smoke free. Remind him of those 5 years of freedom and let him know how much better that you feel. new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 192 Amount Saved: $40.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 5 Mins: 34 Seconds: 13

I was a non smoker for 5 years, had a few to many drinks one night & so did my partner who was also a non smoker for 5 years. He went straight back to smoking the very next day and I thought yuck how disgusting, but as time went on & the drinks flowed I slowly fell into the trap again. We have now smoked for two years (excluding my new quit of 30 days)which I am very proud of, it took many attempts mind you but I know that now I will remain a non smoker forever. He still lights up on awakening (outside the house) and would really love to stop, but he is a highly stressed man who is very hyped most of the time. I made the suggestion of changing his routine this morning only to have my head bitten off. This reduced me to tears feeling that I should just shut up & mind my own business. I was only trying to help! Anyway he went and had a shower as I suggested and tried to occupy himself. This lasted about 20mins. Then he lit up. I have suggested patches, gum, nicobrevin but he says if he's going to do it he will go cold turkey. Heaven help me! He has been very supportive of my quit. I don't know how I can help him. Telling him how bad his cough is seems to fall on deaf ears. I think the best thing to do is to concentrate on my quit and hopefully within his own time he can do it too. Thanks for reading. The support I get from this site gives me strength. :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 660 Amount Saved: $379.50 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 14 Mins: 5 Seconds: 43

Hi all, Well, Saturday went okay , as well! NO SMOKING! My roommate even threw a small surprise bday party for me. when I walked in from work, SURPRISE! some of my closest friends were on my patio. I had some good munchies, german chocolate cake, and 2 drinks. Now, that I think about it; smoking did not cross my mind very much at all! Out of about 12 people, only 4 of them smoked! In previous quits, I would have been soooo miserable, crawling out of my skin, wanting to smoke sooo badly, probably looking for some way to sneak a cig without my friends knowing about it. (first I would of had to steal the cig from someone's pack). Why was I so much more comfortable last night? Wow, I am so thankful that this is getting easier for me. I've gone through such hell in previous quits; horrible cravings, depression, isolating myself, not wanting to do ANYTHING, waiting out the long days until I could finally find an excuse to have a cig again. What denial I was in! I know that I am very early in this quit, but I may have started being able to see the light at the end of the addiction tunnel. That deserves some tears of JOY! new me My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/26/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 192 Amount Saved: $40.00 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 59 Seconds: 59

I know what you co-worker went through. I quit for 1 3/4 years. Then I was deployed. I didn't last to long without a smoke. Now I back to ex-smoker and loving it. The addiction is a very tricky one, never let your guard down. New me, Good job at work! Do not let your colleagues quit affect yours. High stress situations often put quitters at risk. Learn from this individual. What would you do if life threw you a curveball? Having an alternative coping strategy makes it more likely you will turn to it instead of your old habit. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team
