vision problems

Hi Rhonnie, Glad to know that I am helping. I promised myself 3 things when I was first diagnosed with PD. 1) I would beat it. 2) I would learn as much as I could about it to understanding how I got it, why I have it and what I can do to treat it and recover. 3) I would help other people where I can. Funnily enough I actually work in IT and am doing a masters degree in that area, so my own technical knowledge is outside of the medical sphere completely, but perhaps my research skills and technical skills enable me to apply it to medical and scientific stuff as well - I think having a disorder has given me the drive to deal with it. My wife actually thinks I should consider studying psychology, seeing as though I have such an interest in it. I dont know though, restarting my career completely sounds daunting. Anyway anytime you have a question feel free to ask me. I will help if I can.

Hi Chimpmaster, No I don't have a specific question (yet) I was just curious because you know so much and i'm sure you have helped alot of people on this site! You've answered a few of my questions that others have asked in previous posts.

Hi Hopeful, yeh I just drop Saline in my eyes, it's cheap, gentle and effective. Reduces irritation and I find it helps reduce the glassy tired look too.

TY all for inputs!!! I've been suspecting it's the Klonopin causing prob's all along, but couldn't convince my Dr.!! had an eye exam & all was okay (that was 2 yrs ago with same prob). The lexapro made it the WORST on 10mg's for 3 mo's & I gained 20lbs which I'm having quite a hard time getting off I might add! :) However, now that I';ve been taking Wellbutrin x 2wks, I HIGHLY suspect the Klonopin but, I'm thinking it could be TMJ related also------blurred vision is much worse when I'm tense or chew a lot of gum, etc. I have am md appt on Tues & want an MRI done. Do get migraines often too, but soooo glad to hear I'm not the only one with this prob!!! Is there anything we can do about the "glassy eyed" thing which really makes my eyes sensitive. thanks!!

Glad you are Hopeful...I had serious vision problems after years of taking meds., however I'm not sure if they were really med related or not, but my inner sense told me they were. I got Intra-cranial Hypertension; they say they do not know what causes it, but that if you loose weight, (which was hard for me to do on meds. because they caused my weight to go up); but too much spinal fluid is produced and enters the brain, and causes pressure on the back of the eye, which in turn can cause bleeding in the eye, which in turn causes floaters, or black spots floating across your vision. There are other causes for floaters however, and sometimes they are inherited reasons. But if you see black spots, go directly to an optometrist; a good one will be able to look inside your eye and see if there is a problem. Then they will send you on to a specialist if there is a problem. As for the weight connection; I do not believe it is true, because, after taking medications for the eye problem as well as continuing the other meds., I gained more weight, but the eye problem went into remission by itself....the body is a strange thing....

Hey hopeful, I did have some vision problems when I was on Tofranil also. Nothing major, I just seemed to have spelss here and there that I experienced some blurriness(sp?) Have you had your eyes checked lately? Should have it done AT LEAST every 2 years, and once a year if you feel it's necessary. So please have a check-up if your overdue, but yes, in my experience, some of these drugs can cause blurred vision. HTH!! :)

Its not impossible for this to happen. Most people experience some minor visual disturbances on anti- depressants. These tend to be more pronounced early on, and are minimal after 6 weeks or so tops. Dont forget that it could be the klonopin. Especially if you have changed the anti-depressants a couple of times, but the klonopin has remained constant. Benzos are reknowned for causing visual distrurbances in some people. Out of interest, when I came off xanax after taking it for around 2-3 months daily, I experienced intense positive auras followed by migraines a couple of times. At first I thought it was the anti- depressants, but clearly it wasnt as I have been off xanax for 4 weeks now and the auras have not returned. Blurred vision is very common in classic migraines once the auras have ended (normally 20 minutes duration). The blurred vision and headaches can then persist for 24 -36 hrs normally. Typically classic migraines have a dull, unpleasant headache that can be nauseating, can be more severe when you turn your head, but generally arent that sharp like cluster headaches or even normal headaches. Are you getting headaches followed by the auras? If so these sound like classic migraines. Also are you sleeping well? Fatigue and anxiety alone could cause this kind of problem too. How long have you been on wellbutrin for? It will take a few weeks to reach a steady state. Just some food for thought really. Post again and we can try and work through the problem.
