Hi Kat, I am pretty much at the same stage as you. Its not easy I know, I had a slip yesterday, and regret it greatly, but it has re-strengthened my committment now because there was no good in it at all..nothing compared to how proud it has made me feel to quit and how much healthier I have started to feel. Remember all the reasons why you want this (your quit) all the good that will/is coming from it. Hang in there, it is SOOO worth it. Hey Kat. Here's a suggestion - focus on the positive. Think about what's better about not smoking and not what you feel you are missing out on. For example - Tonight I went out and usu I'd stop and have a cig on the way, so I thought it might be a trigger. But instead I was thinking how great it was to get in my car and go straight to the event and not make myself late by stopping to sneak a cig. The same thing happened when I came home. I hope this helps you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/29/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 14 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 179 Amount Saved: $57.12 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 9 Mins: 13 Seconds: 5

Kat, How about a reward? You've NOT smoked close to 200 cigarettes girl! That's a carton of cigarettes - imagine them all piled up. Gross. You don't actually want any of them, not a single puff ;p The only way to not have to go through this again is to just not smoke. Simple but not easy. Take it five minutes at a time and do something nice for your new, non-smoking self. If my memory is right, you are in San Francisco, no? Think of the smokers in the smoking room at the airport locked in there like animals on fire. Yuck. Your lungs deserve better than that. Hang in there Kat, you can do it! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Quiting isn't about the physical so much as the mental. Just about anyone with determination can get through the physical.............but the mental is where you need your focus and plan in place. That is why some have an easier time. They are mentally happy they are quiting. If you allow your mind to feel bad for yourself it becomes difficult. The more you feel you are missing out on something the more it becomes an obsession. For example....awhile back I was having a particularly hard evening. I came to this board and there was a post about someone named "Joe Cool". He was into a quit at a rather young age (30's) and he found out he had lung cancer from smoking. His wife was pregnant with child. BINGO!!!!!!......... MY CRAVES WERE GONE INSTANTLY AND REMAINED SO FOR THE NEXT WEEK. I was so glad..happy...excited..even exilerated that I had quit!! Funny the power of the mind. Hope this helps Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,634 Amount Saved: $362.07 Life Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 14 Mins: 22 Seconds: 57

Kat...practice ways to distract yourself when the thoughts start....don't give in and let yourself entertain this type of thinking.....it's straight from the junky inside you. If he can manage to take over your thinking he figures your actions are next....hang tough and drive him out of your head. We have to remember that although we have withdrawn from nicotine, we are still addicts.....we always will be.....you will continue to improve as you take this journey...you will think of smoking less and less.....but at times, you can have cravings blindside you out of nowhere. Keep a "bag of tricks" to open when this happens. And just remember, as long as you don't smoke, YOU are the one in control....so hang tough and stay there! katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1924 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 76,988 Amount Saved: $10966.8 Life Gained: Days: 253 Hrs: 20 Mins: 0 Seconds: 50

For some people it can take a while for nic to leave the system. Knowing that doesn't make a difference for you, I know. This is a time to really focus on your quit. This is a big deal and it can be difficult. Take it easy, don't feel that you have to do anythig or respond to anything that may be trying. Just ride this out. Pamper yourself. A crave will end, whether or not you smoke. Most importantly, don't listen to those thoughts. You must stop them right now. You have made a rational decision to stop smoking. Don't even think about it, just stick to your non-smoking schedule. I repeat - do not think about it, to do so is to consider it. If you block these thoughts right now, Ol' Nic will eventually see that you are not answering that door and the thoughts will lessen over time. You are doing beautifully. I know you have it in you to do this. You already have. You are doing great, Kat!! Everyone goes through some tough spots, but the key is (for me, anyway) to breathe in very deeply and slowly - then realize how much better I feel and can really breathe - and then this slows down the rush of edginess and craves. I seem to recall what one ex-smoker said to me - wanting the craves to end is not the same as wanting a cigarrette! Anyway, hang in there, and know everyone is pulling for you!! Kat, I found that the physical withdrawal from nicotine was not nearly as bad as the psychological withdrawal, but trust me it does get better. A few days ago I sat down to eat lunch and realized I hadn't thought about smoking yet that day (then I thought about it for the rest of the day!!). Cravings can be annoying but please remember, they will pass wether you smoke or not- let's make it NOT! Hang in there and keep us posted Dupe My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/11/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 32 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 489 Amount Saved: $102.4 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 22 Mins: 45 Seconds: 2

Kat, If you're feeling edgy, get up and get moving. Find a distraction that includes physical movement. It will help you expend some of that anxiety and frustration. Will also keep your focus off your crave. Keep persevering! Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team
