Hi newageseer Who better to talk to you about this than aunt deb? I quit for 10 years Cold-Turkey...and had nightmares for several years and they finally went away. However I believe 1939bear has a point that you might want to explore about "Triggers". There may be something going on in your life now that is triggering the old shriveled addict up the attic (brain). Are you feeling sad or depressed about something? Are you drinking alcohol more? Mind you, none of this is my business and I don't expect you to answer this publicly... I just want you to think about some of the things in your life now that may be upsetting you. Your Family Doctor may be just the one you need to see right now and talk to about it. You don't EVEN WANT TO START SMOKING AGAIN (listen to your auntdeb...been there done that) There is probably something that you are really wanting to do, but feel guilty about even thinking about it (maybe...you don't think you can afford it). I may be way off course here  Trust me, four years ago...you made concessions to smoke...look what you saved, but what did you actually deprive yourself from? See...my smoking dreams stopped....when I put that smoking money into me...I started school with the goal to become a licensed Cosmetologist. I had bills to pay too...ok? That's why we sit down and make the plan...put the plan into action and visualize it happening! have a nice day...and sweet dreams tonight! auntdeb :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 81 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,071 Amount Saved: $384.75 Life Gained: Days: 11 Hrs: 4 Mins: 52 Seconds: 44

Hi Im still pretty new at this, but just to offer you something.... When I first quit I had purchased a mp3 online.....ment to hypnotise me and stop me from smoking. It didn't work the way it claimed to, however........ between the first listen, when quitting was simply a fleeting thought, and my last cigarette....it was about 3 weeks. (I also listened to the mp3 4 more times on days 1 and 2, used the patch for days 1 and 2, and have been here reading alot, too much maybe :)) I attribute alot of my quit to this site, but in all honesty I am sure that mp3 helped now that I was also ready to make the change. I am sure you have done lots to enjoy this smoke free life, but..... i dunno....i might help. Anyway, GREAT STAT! 4 years!! I can't wait to get to 6 months....and 4 years is just amazing. So glad so many of you show us it can be done. Welcome Newageseer! This is the place to be with any issues related to smoking. Compared to you, I'm just a newbie! LOL Congrats on your awesome quit. I wish I had more insight into your dreams, but I don't have any answers for you. I do remember those vivid dreams in the beginning and how upset I'd be when I woke up, thinking I had blown the quit. Maybe the subconcious mind holds onto the "smoking junkie" longer than we want it to. Maybe you should try a sweet reward! I look forward to mine, even the smallest of goodies like a new toilet bowl brush or a new pair of socks! I'm very easy to please. LOL At this point, you know what it means to "stay strong and push through the crave" so, just keep on keeping on! Strength to you, friend Debbie My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/26/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,968 Amount Saved: $555 Life Gained: Days: 14 Hrs: 10 Mins: 54 Seconds: 48

So funny you should say that - my "goal" in the workbook is "pay down debt" lol, lol. You do need a reward and to hang around ;) Marie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/3/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 79 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,373 Amount Saved: $592.5 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 21 Mins: 51 Seconds: 10

I filled out the workbook thingy right before I posted here. I know I had originally planned to do really neat stuff with the extra money, but in reality it always goes to pay bills (where did I get the $ to pay bills to begin with???). So maybe that is kind of a subconscious thing, that I haven't rewarded myself. After all, looking at my quit meter I have saved myself over $12,000 at this point-- heck I could have gone on a really great cruise for that kind of money!

Hi New, I'm not that far along to have experienced what you have, but gosh, I hope someone else can give you better advice! But, WTG!!!!!!!! That's a LONG TIME. Did you try the workbook to the left - it's awesome. Maybe that will help you with your goals for staying quit. As for the cravings, I breathe (and eat now). Good luck, I'll be lurking. I am new here, but many of you probably don't think I should be here. In May it will be 4 years since I stopped smoking. I used a nicotene patch for the first 2 weeks and after that went cold turkey. I smoked for 24 years, an average of 2 packs a day until the last 2 years when it went up to 3 or 4 packs a day. I was fine for a long time, except for my dreams. Up until recently I would dream that I smoked a cigarette and then would suddenly wake up all upset with myself for having done that. Then I would realize it was a dream. Sometimes I would even get upset with myself IN the dream. Recently the dreams have taken a really nasty turn. I am still dreaming that I am smoking a cigarette, but now, I feel no remorse for having done it. Instead I am reveling in the joyous feeling I had when smoking it (much like the first ciggie of the day). I am waking up with severe cravings. In everyday life I can no longer stand the smell of cigarettes and being around them actually makes me physically ill-- sore throat, coughing, headaches. But I feel like I am losing my mind. Any suggestions?
