I think part of the key is to think of this as a postive in our lives, not a negative. Yes, we feel like we are loosing something, but in reality, it is a bad thing that we are loosing. Start trying to think of something really good when that crave hits, like, how sweet smelling a spring flower is, or how good you smell now! Turn the tides on that nasty demon! Kill him with kindness! You watch, he'll run!!! like a scared dog! You know what.....These craves are the same as suffering from a bout of depression..only they are normally much shorter lived. I find this because when you are in the middle of this craving that seems to be controlling your life, you feel as though you have always felt this way, you don't really want to feel better, and you never will feel better anyway. For us non-smokers that are ex-smokers, we think that a smoke will help us feel better, because that means a definate end to our misery. But thats a big fat lie. Just like those other lines. You know you would not really feel better. And anyways.... You know that you have had times that were good in the past and they will happen again. It's just the nicodemon hiding those memories from you in hopes of making you turn to him for support. Not a chance, right? You have heard all this before I'm sure, but there are good times out there. When you can think daily about how good you feel, how sweet the air is, and how much you really do respect yourself for your will to say "NO, I don't need you in my life to be happy!" Those times will come, you just have to let them.....even if you think you can't. Someoneone is always here for you, you can get past this hurdle too. Stubborn, hang in there now, okay? Keep posting, venting, and reading. Stay close to us right now through this rough time. We really want to help you every step of the way. I really think that you need to focus on some positive thoughts. If you don't think of the reasons why you Quit in the first place, you may start looking for excuses to smoke. You will live much longer, you don't stink anymore, your breath is fresh, you don't have to arrange plans around your smoking addiction, you're not being glared at by Non Smokers while you take a drag off of a cigarette, you're not running outside to light up after a movie or while visiting a Non Smokers home, your wife is so relieved that you've quit AND, she's healthier without the second hand smoke blowing in her face. Oh, this list can go on and on. Maybe you should re-focus on your list of reasons/benefits for not smoking instead of thinking about how miserable you are. Take a deep, deep breath and see if you go into a coughing fit. If you don't, you're healthier. Test yourself in those ways. Stubborn, this will ease up on you. Imagine how many times you craved a cigarette as a smoker. You start craving about 25 minutes after you put one out so that's a heck of a lot of craving in a day. Are you craving that much now that you're a NON SMOKER? If you feel unhealthy, and you haven't had a check up, maybe you should consider seeing your doctor. I think I would if I absolutely didn't feel healthy. Smoking could have been masking another problem. Peace of mind is good medicine. The meter alone is not enough. All I see is: End of sanity Date: 1/21/2007 Days of misery: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 926 Amount Saved: $426 Misery Gained: Days: 10 Hrs: 2 Mins: 26 Seconds: 34 I exercised this morning, but I don't feel healthier. My wife keeps asking me what's wrong when she catches me staring at the wall and then tells me not to dwell on it. I have a job interview next week that I need to prepare for if only I could concentrate for more than 3 minutes at a time. water. sleep. these help. But 71 days? I'm sleeping my life away. But I'm not smoking? My personal kudos and rewards are more than a little sarcastic right now. I'm still on the track - just not very happy about it. And isn't that the whole point? Hey Stubborn, Wouldn't it be great if, only after a few days into our quit we could wake up with no cravings at all, completely focused, and with no struggles what so ever? Wouldn't that be great!!? Crap, it isn't that way though, huh? I have to keep telling myself that this is MY Life, MY Quit, and MY Choice. I have to keep reminding myself that all of this is something that I want to do to be happier and healthier. I can't let myself feel deprived so reminding myself that this struggle is my choice, keeps me in control and in the driver's seat. Try doing that when you're feeling a little defeated, okay? After all, YOU did make the choice and you're doing so great. Look at your stats!! Congratulations on doing such a wonderful job!! Listen to Lady too. The breathing and drinking water really helps me a lot. Every time I back off of the water, I start to crave more. This weekend was an example of that. Only after I had one craving behind another did it finally hit me, I haven't had any water at all today. :| Keep hanging in there and fighting one day at a time. Keep posting too while you're going through a rough time. You will get through this and then you'll be strong enough to catch me if I should fall. ;) Hugs, Tutti My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/18/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 43 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,948 Amount Saved: $154.37 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 14 Mins: 6 Seconds: 19

Someone else is whispering back "IT IS SO WORTH IT". What you are going through is perfectly normal, unfortunately. It is worth it. Keep telling yourself "I refuse to give up! I have come too far." That is what I had to do. You are at a point of your quit where so many people give up. Don't be one of them. You are getting close to that 100 day mark and that is a special milestone. Take some deep breaths, drink a lot of water and remind yourself why you quit in the first place. Do not listen to those voices telling you it isn't worth it. Kind of like the devil on one shoulder and he angel on the other. Know that this is a temporary thing. Quitting brings grown men to their knees and many of us sobbing in total confusion. This time passes. It only seems like it will last forever. I didn't think I would ever begin to feel better eithere but I'm here to tell you....just hang on tight with everything you've got. One day soon you are going to wake up a happy non-smoker. Do something good for yourself. A reward! You have made it 70 days and that is so HUGE! Celebrate that. Rewards are such an important part of the quit. Chin up, best foot forward, keep marching forward.
