Wow! That's one of the best analogies I've read on here in a long time! Possibly ever! You've come so far in such a short amount of time! Awesome way to share fresh ideas for all of the newer quitters! Crave the Quit! Hi Sammijofl, I loved reading this, and i agree totally. You have a great attitude and a great quit, we were just saying on another thread, that people who stay positive have less negative symptoms. What do you think? all the best jeanigirl My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 96 Amount Saved: $33.25 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 19 Mins: 27 Seconds: 29

When my kids were old enough to understand, I taught each of them how to deal with mosquito bites by sharing some basic facts. A mosquito cant drink your blood the way it is, I told them, they have to poke you like a needle and inject special mosquito-juice under your skin first. The stuff they inject is like a mild poison that irritates the tissues under your skin and thats what makes you feel the mosquito-bite-itch. If you scratch the bite, I continued, then you will spread the poison around to more of the tissues under your skin, causing more and more irritation, and the bite will continue to itch, sometimes for hours! BUT if you can IGNORE the itch for just five minutes thats right, JUST FIVE minutes, your body will send out special enzymes to the place where the bite is and those enzymes will eat up the poison and stop the itch completely. It sounded too easy, but okay, Mom, if you say so. So I would help them to set a timer, and then get them busy with something to keep their minds off the itch. It didnt matter what it was play a game, do a chore, start a homework assignment they just needed to redirect their thoughts. Five minutes later, the timer would go off, and *Hey!* No more itch! Theyd be surprised every time because what had started as an insufferable, annoying, frustrating, and overwhelming need to scratch had so quickly turned into nothing. I thought about this today in relation to those annoying craves that come and go. Theyre also known as junkie thoughts because thats just what they are thoughts. Those thoughts are like a little bit of poison under your skin. If you give them any power, they can become insufferable, annoying, frustrating and OVERWHELMING. However, if you IGNORE them and REDIRECT your thoughts for just FIVE MINUTES, They turn into nothing. :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 124 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,720 Amount Saved: $372 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 18 Mins: 8 Seconds: 18
