Anyone never a weight gain when quit??????????

17 years ago 0 2631 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Bobbi - I gained weight at the beginning but now I'm 10 lbs lighter than when I started. I honestly couldn't get fit when I was a smoker because the older I got and the more I smoked, the more damage I did to my heart and lungs. Next to my self-respect, the hardest thing to lose (if I ever smoked again) would be the gains that I have made in my physical fitness. Never look back! Bobbi I am close to one month into my quit and have not gained weight thus far. During a previous quit I gained 20 pounds and that was one of the reasons I started again. This time around I am exercising nearly every day and watching what I eat. I haven't lost but haven't gained and I consider that a victory. Best if luck to you! Absolutely agree with Danielle, especially this point -
Make healthy choices, watch your portion sizes, drink lots of water and again increase your level of physical activity. If you hate the gym, find a fun activity like skating, a sport, walking, a dance class...
This is what I did from the get go.. healthy choices especially with those hand to mouth habits. Going for cut up celery, carrots, mushrooms, etc. You can even make a 'light' dip for these veggies. And drinking lots of water in combination with exercise - like walking! I walk everywhere and it's wonderful :) Even IF I should gain a bit along the way I can deal with THAT later because right now I'm concentrating 100% on my quit! All the best to you... Bobbi, Every quitter is different. Some gain, some do not. Weight gain is usually due to the following: * Your metabolism does experience a slow down but it does regain its balance in time. * Nicotine is no longer making your gut move faster. The food is staying in your gut longer and your body is better able to absorb nutrients. * Some quitters compensate for quitting with eating. * Nicotine suppresses appetite. Now that you've quit, you're hungry. That's the bad news. The good news is that there is much you can do to counteract this and many benefits that will come as a result of your quit that will also help. * Because of your quit you will have more energy & endurance. This will help you tolerate physical activity. You can slowly increase the amount of physical activity you engage in temporarily or permanently to off-set some of the reasons mentionned above. * Make healthy choices, watch your portion sizes, drink lots of water and again increase your level of physical activity. If you hate the gym, find a fun activity like skating, a sport, walking, a dance class... * Eat breakfast. This helps jumpstart your metabolism for the day. Above all, remember, weight gain is temporary and you can always tackle this issue when you are more comfortable in your quit. Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi, I was overweight before I stopped. I put on about 8 pounds and lost them fairly quickly once I put my mind to it. I now really need to go on and lose some more as was heavy to strt with but all in good time. I have terrible food cravings right now, to do with I think, being kind of peri menopausal so I just go with the flow. Some weeks, I pig a bit and put on a pound or two others, the cravings subside again and I watch what I eat and lose that pound or two. it will do me for now. Good luck - and well done with your quit. Bobbi, I did lose weight on one of my last quits, but I went on Wt watchers before I quit. I think if you're careful you'll do alright. I have gained about 6lbs this time, but I am more worried about the quit. I want to quit badly, so that will come first. I will worry about the weight a bit later. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 33 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 835 Amount Saved: $348.15 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 0 Mins: 54 Seconds: 25

Hi Bobbi, I didn't gain weight when I quit. I have a small/petite body frame and if anything was normally considered underweight. I lost even more weight at the beginning of my quit. I am about where I should be now, but that didn't happen until just recently. Your stats are looking great too! Good job!
