A Very Rough Day

17 years ago 0 2436 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi BF- -the nicodemon will be w/you the rest of your life on some level - whether it be in your face, a quiet whisper at the strangest times, a reminder of the "smell" of our addiction when you walk past a smoker tugging on that cigarette for his next fix, or just to remind you that he is going to walk with you when you least expect it... Stay aware and awake, my friend... nicodemon is tricky BUT he is not strong when the decision to quit is made and focus kept... Hold on tight and I always say - with the wildest, strongest crave, ride it like a wave in the ocean - lean left when it goes in that direction, lower your weight to your knees when it's really powerful, and just lean into it till it dies down... The good news is with each and every crave - tick tock, in time it goes away...if only we allow the time to pass... nicodemon doesn't...he is there and will grab what he can get when we are vulnerable and forget about him... Key is don't ever forget! Blessings! Boxerfan, Oh yea, I had those cravings when I was right there with you and Jean. Those cravings were relentless. They came so fast, with so little time in between, that you can't pull yourself together or catch your breath. You're right, it does feel like insanity. But you did a fantastic job of dealing with them. I'm so proud of you and really admire you for being able to identify what triggered them. That's so important. Remember, you battled hard yesterday so you have to get plenty of rest. When you have days like that, you're absolutely exhausted so rest/sleep is vital. You do need something just for you today. You know, a Milky Way bar, a good movie, and pile up on the couch. That kind of thing. ;) Just know too that those cravings that leave you panting are behind you now. At least they were for me. I haven't seen those since I was in my second to third week. Oh you have some good days and bad but man, not like that!! Boxerfan (and Jean & Kita, too) - I'm so proud of you for holding out and getting through this. You are great role models for what to do when those monster craves hit. Hi Boxerfan, You did a great job. It is easy on the good days to think we are past the cravings but when they hit hard they can knock you out. I just came off of 2 rough days and found myself glued to this site just wainting for someone to post something new. I read and read and it usually helps for a time. I keep remembering the post that it will stop on Tuesday and that kind of brings me back in focus. Hang in there you are doing great. :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 25 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 508 Amount Saved: $162.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 12 Mins: 49 Seconds: 37

Thanks Jean, Congratulations to you, also. That nicodemon was pretty tough yesterday, but WE were stronger! It's nice to know that others are feeling the same way and we are not alone in this struggle. Boxerfan.. I went through EXACTLY the same thing with the cravings you had yesterday as well. Same day and the same bombardment of cravings - one after another for several hours. It was exhausting huh? I too know what I think brought mine on.. and now that I've identified it I won't be repeating it again! You got through it and I congratulate YOU :) I decided that a very long walk and a lot of positive thinking while walking was the best 'cure' for me and it all worked out very well when all was said and done! I found that my exhaustion lead me straight to bed for a little nap and then just pampered myself for the rest of the day by watching a baseball game on t.v. :) I'm so proud of US ! ! ! ! ! We beat that nicodemon to the curb... *SPLAT* ! Well, I was disillusioned to think that I would just move right along in my quit without have a nightmare visit from the nicodemon. He tried to haunt me yesterday. It was the toughest day I've had since the first three days. I felt crave after crave after crave for about four hours with very little time in between them. I tried so many coping strategies, but it the craves continued for way too long. When they finally eased up, I was exhausted. It felt like a brick had been lifted off of my chest. Thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences because this helped me make it through the day. These are a few of the words of wisdom that helped me yesterday: NOPE A cigarette won't make it better, it will make it worse. I'm a nonsmoker Think like Rocky Balboa When will this stop...on Tuesday (I think I can make it until then!) Deep breathing Reading posts here It will get better Dont give up You can do this Rubbing my ears During this time, I wanted to cry, scream and yell. It felt like temporary insanity. I came to a realization yesterday. I am ADDICTED to nicotine. It was an eye opening experience. Once I regained some of my sanity, I was able to reflect on the situation and determine what I think caused this overwhelming surge of craves. I think I figured it out and I know what to do to prevent it in the future. I didn't take care of myself (didn't eat breakfast), and this started the downward spiral. It was also the first weekend since my quit that I didn't have lots of activities planned to keep me busy. Thanks again for all of your advice and encouragement. They helped me make it through the day without smoking.
