Thank you tutti, gonna, Danielle and Marg. It was a HUGE MISTAKE stepping down so early and I've learned my lesson. I'm not disappointed really.. I am going to follow the directions because I really don't want to go through that again ! Just got back from my walk and now we're headed out to the mall and go for lunch :) There's one thing to be said from all of this.. at least now I know that there will be crying in my future and I won't get so panicked over it. I will just let it flow. Thanks again and have a great day :) J xo My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 19 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 485 Amount Saved: $194.75 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 4 Mins: 28 Seconds: 11

Hi Jean, I haven't posted for a while but I couldn't resist when I saw your post. I too quit with the patch, and I got confused when I saw some people taking their patches off or stepping down early etc. I ended up using the patch as directed. And I'm pleased I did, because after a smoking career of a pack a day for 30 years, I needed that ten weeks to learn how to be a non-smoker. And while the withdrawal was still brutal, especially in the beginning, the patch did take a small bit of that edge off, and in my case I think the patch is the reason I succeeded. I admire those who can step down more quickly or quit cold turkey, but I do sing the praises of the patch because without it I suspect I'd still be a smoker. I remember being weepy and fed up and tired, and confused around day 19, where you are....but don't give up. You've accomplished so much already. I've been off the patch for more than a month now, I'm proud to say, but to this day, I still have trouble believing I actually did it. You have too! Stick with it and congratulations! Jean49, I know you must feel a little dissapointed but you did what you had to to keep your quit and that's what counts! Generally, we do recommend you follow the full course of treatment as recommended by your physician. Keep persevering! Danielle _____________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Jean, I know you wanted to step down and get the nicotine out of your system sooner but, I believe they do recommend that you go through the whole program. Maybe you won't have those bone crunching craves if you just take your time and go through the program. You think? I went cold turkey and well, you read my post from my Day 3. LOL I can laugh now but it wasn't funny at the time. I think you were having one of those Day 3's today since it was the third day since you stepped down. I don't know much about the patches but I would think that they're set up to slowly take you off nicotine so that you won't have those bone crunching cravings. Someone else will hop in here that does know about the patches. You're doing a great job. Look at your stats!!! Well on the 20th I decided to step down from the 21 mg patch to the 14mg. The 20th and 21st went quite well. I was getting in a lot of walks, spring cleaning, keeping really busy but then BOOM it hit me really bad early this morning. I tried all day, kept busy busy busy and it was just too hard to handle so I've gone back to the 21 mg. I just so wanted the nicotine to be out of my system you know? Guess I just have to be more patient.. right? Ok... Well I'm feeling much better than I did this morning and will continue on with it for another week or so. Wish me luck !
