I've never heard of that test! Probably because that range of motion would cause severe pain in the left lower quadrant and he your son would scream beyond belief when those muscles flexed and extended. A true test for appendicitis is an elevated white blood cell count, rebound tenderness on the left lower quadrant (it doesn't hurt to press it, but hurts like hell when you let go), bu the gold standard is a ct or cat scan! True appendicitis can be life threatening and you should go to an ER and not the office! i had it and 2 years ago! Perhaps he has ibs (irritable bowel syndrome) which is very common with anxiety! hope i helped!

Nurseboy, Maybe since your a pediatric RN, I had to take my son for stomach problems, (he has anxiety we found it due a very stressful school time later), but besides the poking on the stomach, the doctor and I forgot why he told me he did this, was made him take out his socks and shoes, took the palm of this hand, and hit it against the heel of his foot. When this didnt cause pain in the abdomen, he stated he probably didnt have appendictis, which in time the pain did subside. But exactly why would hitting the palm of your hand to the heel of the foot do to indicate the appendix?

Blondie, If these symptoms continue then please make an appointment to see your doctor, or go to the nearest hospital for assessment. Keep us posted! Melanie ___________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

Hi there, I understand your concern, believe me I do...but we are not doctors here, and even if we were, one could not really diagnos someone over the net. There are some definite symptoms of anxiety as you can see on this site and even those, if you are not diagnosed with panic disorder, could be something else like a thyroid problem, etc. I encourage you to see a doctor and once he/she rules out all else, then you can rest a bit easier. Personally, as nurseboy stated, I have an intestinal problem (ulcerative colitis) that does seem to get worse when I am under a lot of anxiety. But, even with this, I underwent numerous test etc to find that out. It may be nothing, but you should get it checked out. Best of luck, Danielle

Irritable bowel syndrome is common with people with depression/panic...look up the symptoms and then tell your doc!

Hi Blondie, I think it would probably be best to see your doctor just to get it checked out, more for peace of mind than anything else. I used to quite often get a weird pain in my abdomen and found it hard to move or bend. One doctor told me it was a rumbling appendix - that was7 years ago and I still have my appendix!! I've never figured out what caused it nor have I been able to link it to anything, my best guess was that it may have been a chill in the bladder from going around in bare feet all the time. I've never come to any harm from it, it was just more annoying than anything else. I don't know whether this helps or not with your question?!

Hey everybody! I have been worring about this forever! I have some abdomonal pain and i am so scared that it is my appendix! It scares me so much! I really dont think it is this because i am hungry and i am ok other than the pain(which isnt that bad, but in my head it is). Do you think this pain could be from my anxiety? When i dont think about it, it doesnt hurt. I have had this same pain about 2 weeks ago but it went away cause i didnt worry about it. I hope you can help! Reply please! This is my spring break and i really dont want to have to worry the whole time, i want to have fun! Thanks, Blondie :8o:
