Hi Bobbi, No you cannot wear the patches forever. I think it says on the packages to not wear them for more than 3 months... You should double check that. As for gaining weight, well I think with many people it comes with the territory, so as Danielle suggested choose healthy foods, snacks etc. and I found that keeping physically active really makes a huge difference. Yes, I've gained some weight but that was because in the first month I was chowing down big time on anything and everything unhealthy. For the last couple of weeks I have been eating much healthier, smaller meals, healthy mid morning, mid afternoon and early evening snacks :) I've lost 8 lbs ! Jean p.s. Bobbi don't worry about the weight at this point. You'll get to a point where you are feeling more confident in your quit (KEEPING YOUR GUARD UP AT ALL TIMES!) and then consider a diet regiment which is good for you :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 40 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,016 Amount Saved: $410 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 13 Mins: 38 Seconds: 53

Bobbi, Yes, nicotine does speed up your metabolism and suppress your appetite however the patches are not meant for long-term use. Yes, your metabolism does take a dip when we quit but it will balance itself out in time. There is a lot you can do to ward off weight gain such as making healthy choices and increasing your level of physical activity as you step down from the patch. Above all, remember weight gain is temporary. We have many threads in our smoking & weight gain section that may be helpful to you. Make this a team effort too! I am on the patches and I have read that they do help with the nic. in them to help with hunger and keeping your metabo. reved up????? true or not? if true could they be worn forever? I have not gaind any weight this time, but first time quit with patches other times was cold turkey, and boy did I gain!!!!! not gainning has sure helped to keep me stronger in my quit as I only have one thing to fight not two.
