I'm Struggling

Hey Mitch! You're doing great! Try having a peppermint after meals. That really helped me, and it helps with the tummy too. After a few days, I craved a mint instead of a smoke! Now I don't crave either! It all seems to be a means of finding a distraction or diversions from the crave. Keep on going, One day at a time, Not One Ouff Ever! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 60 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,511 Amount Saved: $633 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 7 Mins: 12 Seconds: 36

I agree with everyone here, Mitch, but wanted to add my (two cents) small advice - Just worry about today - do not start thinking what if, and what will I do - if you can stop for just one hour, and then go one day, then on to one week, then ... well you see where I am going, and where you will be going is you will have QUIT. Mitch - The key for you is education! I know for me, the feeling is, yeah I can be quit for now, but what about down the road. Well, I'm working on undoing the brainwashing of nicotine addiction. Read the posts with ingredient lists in cigarettes, do internet searches, read the bs on tobacco company websites, etc... Also, if you haven't already, read the Alan Carr book. Be like me, and get the REAL truth ingrained in your brain so you will never WANT to smoke again. You can deal with the details of handling your trip when you get closer. For now, just get quit and get knowledge! Mitch you are doing so well ! I think it's only natural to think ahead, but as other's have said and something which I've followed all along is - take it one moment, one day at a time. It seems to be the best way to go otherwise you're putting so much pressure on yourself. Celebrate the days that you have conquered and embrace the day you are in ! Mitch, I forgot to tell you, when I added you to the list, it is no longer an option to go back to smoking, because it means more work for me! ;) I'm glad you're feeling a bit better - it's a long journey, but I think you are over the worst now take care Mr Ed :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/13/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 444 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 13,326 Amount Saved: 3330 Life Gained: Days: 72 Hrs: 9 Mins: 29 Seconds: 6

Hey all These meters don't always tell the truth. I'm actually at the end of my 4th day, shortly after dinner and feel a hell of a lot better. I spent an hour on cooking (pizza made by hand) and then dinner was ready 20 mins later. I think this helped, keeping busy, before eating, tonight I feel great. Sorry, bringing up in 2 months time, I just want to quit. I don't want to be tempted, that's how I've slipped up before. Thanks for all your words of wisdom every one. Keep strong Mitch PS Smitty, Where are you My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 64 Amount Saved: $20.4 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 5 Mins: 59 Seconds: 28

Hi Mitch, I agree with Mercy. Sometimes with those really hard triggers you have to completely shake things up. Maybe do the dishes as soon as you finish eating or eat something sweet, like fruit. Something that will signal the end of the meal rather than the smoke. I believe that if you stick to your guns over the next two months, you're opinions and the way you view smoking wil change dramatically. Rewards will help with this too. If you plan a two-month reward for yourself it will keep your eyes on the prize. In 60 days you will have built a small arsenal of coping techniques that will be second nature by the time you see your family. All the best! Mitch, Calm down. You are only on day 2 and that is to be expected. You are having withdrawl both physically and mentally. Little by little things will get better. It is slow...but steady. You MUST... stay in the moment. You will ruin your quit to think about next week..next month.. next holiday...next vacation or next season. You stay in the moment. Someone told me something that made so much sense here. They said: "You can't live in yesterday...and you can't live tomorrow...but you are living in the present." Next... you have to sit and think of your hardest times durring the day. It may be morning....before dinner...after dinner and just prior to bed. What ever they are you need to have something you are going to be doing. It may be you jump on an exercise bike for 10 minutes. It may be a walk around the block. What ever....but plan it out. In the morning I had coffee with a bible devotional. After work was a nice walk in the woods with my dog. Later in the evening it was sour altoids...or popcorn. Or reading a book with my soothing music on. Make a new ritual to replace the cigarette ritual. Next..... work on a mindset that this is a great thing...a happy thing....and exciting journey for you. It's all about and for you!! It isn't a torture sentence.... it is a new life with a clean new freedom. Get rid of the thoughts I GOT TO QUIT....and replace it with...I GET TO QUIT. Pamper yourself. Buy pretty shampoo... do you nails and clean your rings. Better yet.... wear a ring you haven't for awhile. Give yourself a facial....buy teeth whitener. You will be all consumed with yourself and your quit for quite sometime. Enjoy attending to you. You can do this. Watch your stats grow. I'm there for you! Can't say what is down the road in 2 months, the most I have ever gotten to is 7 weeks. After dinner can you can ask your hubby to go for a walk. Do something to get your mind off the cig. Turn some music on and dance and laugh. I read where being hungry and craving can have same feeling. If you have just eaten and are still hungry you are craving. Walking has been a life saver for me. If you have children it would be a great way to spend family time. A lot can happen in two months. Prepare and get your coping skill in order. One day at a time. Wish you the best. By the way we have the same quit date :) Sparky My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/30/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 2 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 27 Amount Saved: $6 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 50 Seconds: 5

Hey all Day 4 and I've had a really easy quit this time, because I've just avoided any smokers. But for some reason that after dinner one (or not having it) is killing me. I'm starving hungry after dinner (and my potions have got no smaller) and that's when I feel terrible and I start getting picky with the hubby. It's not that I feel like racing out and buying some smokes, I actually don't, the physical cravings are under control with the patch, it's the other cravings if you ex-smokers get my drift. The other thing I'm slightly worried about, is I go away at the end of June (yes I know 2 months away). As I said before I've managed to avoid smokers for the time being, but I will be visiting my family, they all smoke and I know I can bum off them. I havn't got the greatest of will power around them and I can't not go. Please help me to come up with something.
