I have recently decided to quit. I started last week and made it one day. Started again and am on day 3 of not smoking. Just found out wife is pregnant with child no 2. That is my motivation for this quit. I want to be around for my grandchildren. The withdrawal is overwhelming and all I can think about is smoking.

I have been on the patch for about a week. It seems to help. My hardest time is at work. I work alone, and it is very easy to slip outside and smoke. I don't wont this ruling my life anymore.

Hi Smokerdad, I blew it too afer one day, but got back on the wagon, and doing ok. I think about smoking too, which to me seems ok, as long as you think about how great it is that you are not smoking. I smoked for my entire adult life, you will think about it when it suddently disappears. So good luck and think of the little one coming. HEY SMOKERDAD! I AM ON THE PATCH TOO, AND ALTHOUGH I DON'T WORK ALONE, I AM USE TO GOING TO THE WAREHOUSE AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY TO SMOKE. HOWEVER, LET ME TELL YOU HOW I GOT IT TO WORK FOR ME..IT IS NOT THE SAME FOR EVERYONE, BUT LIKE I SAID, THIS WORKS FOR ME. I STILL GO TO THE WAREHOUSE AT MY SCHEDULED TIMES, EXCEPT I AVOID THE SMOKING AREA AND JUST DO LAPS AROUND THE WAREHOUSE DOING MY BREATHING EXCERSIZES AND JUST REALIZING HOW MUCH EASIER IT IS TO WALK AT A GOOD PACE WHEN YOU CAN BREATH TO DO IT!! DON'T GIVE UP, NO MATTER HOW HARD THE CRAVINGS ARE, JUST REMEMBER IF YOU GO BACK TO SMOKING AND WANT TO QUIT AGAIN, IT IS EVEN HARDER TO QUIT A SECOND TIME (AT LEAST I KNOW IT IS FOR ME)! STAY STRONG! ~PEACE~ SHORTCAKE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 91 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 46 Seconds: 25

HI THERE SMOKERDAD!! FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO CONGRADULATE YOU ON DECIDING TO QUIT FOR GOOD! A NEW ADDITION TO THE FAMILY IS GREAT MOTIVATION..WHEN YOU HIT DIFFICULT SPOTS AND YOU AREN'T SURE WHY YOU QUIT - THINK ABOUT THAT LITTLE ANGEL COMING INTO A WORLD WITH CLEAN AIR AND LOVING PARENTS TO PROVIDE HIM/HER WITH THE CLEAN AIR! I, MYSELF, I SMOKED FOR 20 YEARS, I QUIT FOR 6 MONTHS AND CAVED!! BUT, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, THAT WAS THE PAST AND NOW I AM LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE. I CAME TO THIS SITE THE LAST TIME I QUIT AND YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE HOW MUCH IT HELPED ME!! THAT IS WHY I AM BACK NOW. I AM ON DAY 5 AND HOLDING!! YOU KNOW WHAT THOUGHTS HELP ME A LITTLE IN GETTING THROUGH THE WITDRAWALS? IT IS THE THOUGHT "MAN!! THIS SUCKS!! I NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THIS AGAIN!! I PROMISE THAT THE CRAVINGS WILL GET EASIER, YOUR BODY JUST HAS TO HAVE TIME TO GET RID OF THE CHEMICALS AND NICOTINE FROM YOUR SYSTEM. IT IS WORTH IT!! ~I PROMISE!~ STAY STONG! ;) ~PEACE~ SHORTCAKE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/25/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 90 Amount Saved: $18 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 44 Seconds: 59

Welcome! I am into my 3rd day and have not had many craves for the nicodemon. My best defense was listening to / reading "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking". Look it up.. you can get it at most book stores. It really did help. I am not using any NRT's, nor medications and have not had to change my routine. It's the way you think about smoking. If you think you are sacrificing and "having" to give up something, the craves are terrible. If you can change that mindset ~ that the only thing you are giving up is bad health, wasted money, and self loathing, the craves are just not there. It doesn't take too long for the nicotine to leave your body, then the rest is all in your head. Read the book... promise, it will help! Welcome! Take this one hour, or day at a time. Drinks lots of water to flush out your system. Take alot of deep breaths when you feel the "urge to smoke." Banana's are suppose to be good for you when you quit smoking too. Can't remember why, but I ate them anyway, must have worked! (there is an old posting about banana's if you want to search it) Remember that if it was easy, everyone would quit. Be the winner. Yes, you can sneak a smoke, but do you REALLY want to? You can be stronger than the little voice, called nicotine, that begs you to smoke. Welcome. We just had another dad quit in time for the birth of his child. the workbook here is a great place to start. i find my meter is a motivator. are you using anything to help with cravings? patches, medication, etc? Keep posting and read the old posts - they hold a wealth of information. This first week, which we call HELL week, may try all your personal resources. Get some coping mechanisms in place, a back up plan and a back up to your back up plan. You really can do this, but it's gonna be a battle, one that you can surely win.
