Hopeful, I'm sorry you're feeling so bad. Please don't give up. What other treatments are in you involved in and how long have you on medication? Some take several weeks to get the full effect. Please don't give up, it does get better. I'm living proof. Vent all you need to in here. We are here to listen and sometimes just talking to others with the same problem can be really helpful. hopeful, hang in there things do get better. How long have you been on your medication? It sometimes takes 2 months for the medication to start to work really well. I've been where you are and so have alot of us on here, so you are not alone in this. If I can be of any help, or you just need someone to listen you can reach me at gph1987@comcast.net

INFO ON TOPAMAX: Topamax is also known as topiramate. Class: Anticonvulsant While response to treatment with SSRI treatments for anxiety is good, some patients treated with SSRI medications do not experience significant benefit and are considered to be resistant and/or intolerant to SSRI treatment. In addition, while superior to the tricyclic antidepressants and more useful than benzodiazepines (because of the broader base of efficacy), the SSRI medications can be associated with significant tolerability issues of their own. Based on the successful use of the anticonvulsants gabapentin and pregabalin in anxiety conditions such as social phobia and PTSD, researchers are exploring the efficacy of other anticonvulsants, including topiramate for anxiety disorders. There is some evidence for the efficacy of topiramate in treating Post traumatic stress disorder and this agent may also be effective in treating other anxiety disorders. However, there is at least one report of panic attacks asssociated with the use of topiramate.

hopeful, I've never taken topamax , but I know it is a anti- seizure medication that is now being used to treat migraines. It is supposed to be very effective with very few side effects. It may cause you to feel fatigued at first and may cause some stomach upset, but that would be better then a migraine, they are so debilatating. If your md prescribed it for you then try not to worry, he knows whats best for you.

I have not taken topamax, but I just have to say this: if you are having migrains and blurred vision, get yourself to an eye care specialist, because I developed intra-cranial hypertension while on meds, and although they say there are other reasons you get this disease; I strongly intuitively believe it is connected to the meds. Especially if you took too much by accident. And in any case, even if the meds are not involved, if you had what I had, you have to look after it right away, with other medications, or you could go blind. Please take it seriously, and get your eyes checked by a specialist if possible. Even a normal optometrist can look into your eye and see if there is something wrong going on. That is what happened to me. I went for a regular eye check, and she sent me right away to a specialist, because I was on medications, and because she could see that I had a serious problem. So please check it out right away!

Are you sure it is Topamax? I thought that was for seizures. (??) I could be wrong or maybe it has other uses too that I'm not aware of. Sorry, can't be of too much assistance.

Dear hopeful224, It can be nerve racking changing medications, but if you had side effects the Doctor felt it necessary to change the meds to prevent this. Just keep posting on the site, people here understand what you are going through. Susanne
