Thanks Todash.... for some reason my day eight is a bit tough....I get side-swiped with a walloping craving about this time of day.....and it's all I can do not to run to the store. I'm holding out though....and hoping these pass soon! Glad you're having a good one......! Hi Todash, Glad to see you're doing so well! I too started a healthy eating/fitness program at the end of October. At that time I had no idea I would quit smoking New Year's Eve. But I needed to lose weight and get off my fat butt. Since October, I've completely changed my eating habits, bought a treadmill, joined a gym. I walk on the treadmill, do a strength training program at the gym, and today, I wheezed my way through my first Pilates class. Once I started all of this the smoking became more uncomfortable. It's hard to work out and be a smoker. So I set my quit date. But I have to say I'm so pleased I've already got my exercise/eating regime in place. It's making it much easier to stay focused as I work my way through the quitting smoking process. Down 24 pounds so far. It's never too late too start. And exercise is a great way to tackle those cravings! Underwater basket weaving LOL LOL is there such a thing, probably! You're funny! WTG re walking. I'm not an exerciser but I'm trying to incorporate more walking into my day - one way so far - walk the dog instead of sending him into the yard! I so love London. I use to go for work reasons 3x a year for 15 years. I quit that job when I had my daughter (hey, she gives me plenty of exercise though!), took 2 years off and am now working for Americans. Sorry to go off on a tangent but you've brought back many memories with the tube - I always got lost on London's streets! and am amazed at your taxi drivers! It really does make a difference to your mind set, doesn't it? Why bother? to Why sit on my dead a** and stop living! I get a rush from exercising that no cigarette could ever compare to. Just getting ready to sign up for a dance class, something I haven't done in years. Bring it on :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 281 Amount Saved: 66 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 42 Seconds: 28

Oh my word...I almost replied "24 pounds, holey smokes" then I realised what I was doing! :8o: What I meant to say was Woohoo, well done you! It really does make a huge difference to get started early, overall change for the better. I'm finding this quit so much easier than I ever could have imagined and suspect that the exercise has a lot to do with it. Thanks to all for the good wishes. Day 8 and feeling great! :p My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 173 Amount Saved: 38.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 15 Mins: 17 Seconds: 33

Not having a clue I was planning to quit smoking on New Year's Day, I started a walking program last July to take a few pounds off. Basically I can get on the tube (I live in London) close to work or walk 30 minutes / 2 miles every week day to get a different train. I haven't really changed my eating habits - I still eat anything I want but not until I'm about to pop. 12 pounds lighter, I had my last smoke January 1st. Went back to work the next day, right back to my walk (during which I NEVER smoked), headphones on, inspiring music at the ready. The walk is now a routine as ingrained as my smoking was, but the difference is once I quit smoking I STILL have something that's entirely mine, that I have no reason whatsoever to give up. It feels NORMAL, will help keep the weight off and clears my head. I'm not a fitness freak in the least; to be honest I started walking in the summer because the tube was over 100 degrees (no A/C), commuters are really rude and you can only take so much of other people's halitosis blowing in your face before you want to clobber them, so I got out for some air. Now I'm REALLY getting some air! I guess what I'm trying to say is, exercise, knitting, washing the dog, origami, underwater basket weaving...start something NEW that becomes your habit, something that makes you feel good, and then let that fill your time when you quit. Change something in your life TODAY. If the time is right, you'll probably feel as good as I do on day 6! x Todash My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 5 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 127 Amount Saved: 27.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 11 Mins: 15 Seconds: 21

Todash, You are so right.. It was a big help for me to start something new when I quit. It gave me something else to think about. Walking is a great habit. I do alot of it myself. Hello Todash, sounds like you have the right attitude for a successful quit! Change requires change. I got a puppy when I quit smoking, 5 days after quitting. It really helped since it was like having a baby at home to take care of. The doggie kept me very busy. Now I am using her in my weight loss program, walking her helps to keep me moving. Good luck and have a great smoke-free day!
