SSRI's and hormones

Well, symptoms can very from person to person. The "classic" symptoms are, weight gain usually in the mid section, irregular periods, acne, excessive hair growth, infertility, high testosterone levels. You can find alot of information on this if you search the web. I, however, only have slightly high testosterone levels. My Dr. discovered this by a vaginal ultrasound when he saw several cysts on my ovaries and by my blood tests. He then proceeded to tell me that this condition could be the reason why I suffer from anxiety and breakout sometimes. This condition is easily fixed with medication. Since I'm not a Dr., please don't diagnose yourself. Make sure you see your Dr. if you are wondering about this. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thanks smiley! I'm not sure if I've been checked for the polycystic ovaries. What are the symptoms and how do they diagnose it?

Hi Pamela! Has polycystic ovaries been ruled out? This condition can make you have irregular periods. I have this condition and was told that anxiety can be a symptom due to the fluctuating hormones. Throughout my cycle, I have weird feelings too. As for the zoloft causing you to have more periods, I'm not sure why that is. Maybe all your chemicals are balancing. I take zoloft and haven't noticed any difference like what you are describing.

I know I've read on here plenty of times how anxiety gets worse around a woman's period. But I was wondering if anyone had noticed that their medication is making then have more periods and pms symptoms? I began taking zoloft 7 months ago and prior to taking it I only had 3 periods a year. It is apparently an inherited thing because my mom was the same way. I had been through all of the tests and everything came back normal. Once I began taking the zoloft though, I started having regular periods sometimes 2 a month. My doctors say that's great because obviously my serotonin levels were very low and now that I've replaced it my system is getting back to normal. But I don't like it. Around the time I'm ovulating and right before I start my period I feel really weird. I have alot of anxiety and tingling in my body. The rest of the month I feel great! I'm considering quitting the meds altogether even though I reccommend them to people who are suffering from anxiety because I think the zoloft is doing weird things to my hormones. Any help would be greatly appriecated.
