This my second Great American Smoke-Out smoke free! WOW! Twice! There were a few things that made this quit worked for me. I adopted the slogan N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever). I kept telling myself that if I didn't light that next cigarette, I had it made. I took the quit one day at a time and stopped thinking in terms of forever. When one day at a time was too much, I took five minutes at a time. Those minutes turned into days, days into months, months into a year, I'm sure you get the picture. The most important thing that got me through was the friends I made here at the SSC. Never in my life have I ever felt so much love and support as I did from those here. I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world. Being smoke free is the greatest thing there is. Guess the Great American Smokeout doesn't have the same impact it used to. I didn't even know it was here. My primary motivation was health; secondary was being able to run in a dog agility competition and survive. Staying quit was accomplished by simply never touching another cigarette. For me, that broke any slip/relapse cycle earlier in the sequence than not taking a puff. The friends I've made here helped me the most. Some quit before me, some actually quit much later. The help door swings both ways and I've gotten way more than I've ever given. My toughest time was just getting the gumption up to quit. Once I'd done that, I guess the next worse time was around days 86 - 89, or so. Spent those evenings curled up on the couch waiting the pain out. It passed and I survived. Seems like no biggie now. No matter what you may be going through, it will pass, you will survive. And when you do emerge on the other side, the feeling of pride, success, and control are staggering. Never, never, never give up. Keep up the great quits, everyone. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 542 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,841 Amount Saved: $2059.6 Life Gained: Days: 101 Hrs: 1 Mins: 13 Seconds: 45

Hi members, Have you heard of this? Tomorrow, November 16th is the "Great American Smokeout" It is a day that the American Cancer Society promotes and encourages people to quit! This is great worldly support and we can be part of it. What are your motivations for quitting? How do you keep quit? What has helped you the most? What was your toughest time? What can we do to help? It is important that we share with one another and we can all learn something valuable from another's quit. Let's help others looking for ways to quit and let's continue the success and achievements we have accomplished. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
