NO OFFENSE NOTHING PERSONAL

Hello, I don't mind hearing both sides. Where there is negative, there is positive. With the negative comes lessons we can learn from. When I read that someone has slipped I try and find out why and can I learn from that. Maybe that situation will come up in my life and I will know how to deal with it better. There are times when I want someone to listen to my negativism and so I don't mind listening to theirs and hopefully we help each other through it. WITH THE POSITIVE COMES GREAT REWARD! Hope that helps. So,i was thinking about again it last night. and please do not get me wrong. Just my advice to newcomers, do not go and read the "i slipped" posts. stay away from them until you are 100% sure that they will not affect you in any way. (remember the "my grandfather is 100 years old and still smoking"? or "the guy quit smoking but died in a plan crush". you know what i am talking about...the "reasons" i should smoke).STAY AWAY FROM THAT SECTION. It takes a lot of will power to quit smoking.(i know not everyone has the same will power). and I think it breaks your spirit to survive the quit, when somebody fails to do so, by giving you the bad example of giving in to the temptation of smoking again. Do you think it is fair for these people to post a message saying that they smoked (for whatever the reason maybe) after all the encouragement and support that they get here? and by doing so, they may encourage beginners to follow suit, or it may break the spirits of others who are thinking of quitting smoking. when i started my quit and came here to read the messages,it was very encouraging to read the positive posts but when i use to read one of these "fall back" messages it affected me negatively since i was looking for any excuse to start smoking again. Any thoughts about it? or is it just me? yes, the slipping posts can be hard to handle sometimes. but thats what this place is for. To offer support to everyone that asks for it. And the knowledge that people are being honest enough to admit that they slipped is a part of why I find this site so helpful. I can believe that, overall, everyone is being honest because some people are admitting that they are having a hard time. I did find a post that was extreamly helpful to me in the slipped section, I bumped it if anyone missed it the first time, and for anyone new like me, who it may just help. I know I won't smoke again after reading it. Good Luck in your quit and just remember to take from the board what you need and the rest, while helpful to some, may be of no importance to you. All I can say is I'm glad you are given more than one chance at an atempt at anything. If I couldn't take my drivers test again when I failed at 16 I'd now be a 53 year old non-driver. If I couldn't take chemistry class again in 1971 I'd still be in high school trying to get out. :p If atkins...south beach...weight watchers and nutra system gave me one chance....i'd still be over-weight. Who knows...if Stop Smoking Center threw me out after my (5th try)...I wouldn't be here....but 6 feet under. Thank God for second Chances. (Just a different point of view) :) :) Mercy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 47 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 956 Amount Saved: $210.09 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 4 Mins: 48 Seconds: 52

I have seen myself in every single person, and prophet is a good word to describe them, that has crawled back to tell their story and asked for forgiveness and help. They did not have to give unconditionally for the cause of the greater good, and I think that is exactly what they did, and hope and pray that they are received in return. They could have just disappeared and returned, after an unconsoled self-beating, as a fresh new someone else. This scenario offers no giving and no receiving and a deprived, one-sided learning experience. These prophets offer compassionate insight. If this site is about aspiring to be free (from addiction), then I liken it to our Statue of Liberty and its welcoming inscription: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door." ...or maybe we should extinguish the light and leave them lost and imprisoned. ALL ARE WELCOME should be be the message sent out My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/16/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 52 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,050 Amount Saved: $145.6 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 2 Mins: 38 Seconds: 42

Excellent Post Healer and Nonic!!!!! Very impressive. It can't all be pretty, right? But, we learn lessons from both the encouraging and the disappointing. I disappointed myself when I quit on Feb. 14th and then failed three days into my quit. Oh, I was devastated. I realized where I messed up, I learned valuable lessons, and was so encouraged by my buddies on this site. I started my Feb. 18th quit and I feel so strong now. That first failure was something I didn't want to feel again. I felt stronger and more committed going into my second quit. I do NOT smoke and I will NOT smoke. All we can do is encourage others, love 'em, and support them through those good times and rough times. Stay Strong and Lots Of Hugs!! Woo Woo Woo Woo!!! Great post Peteg!!! And you're welcome. ha ha ha ha I flat busted my butt 3 days into my Valentine's Day quit. I smoked three cigarettes. I was so disgusted with myself but, I did learn some tough lessons from that failure. My Dad use to call it, "Going to the school of hard knocks." LOL I started right back up on Feb. 18th and feel so strong. I AM a non smoker. You said what I was attempting to say on another post. You just said it a whole lot better!!! HA HA HA I'm so glad you waltzed in here and told it like it is. Thank you for that!! It can't all be pretty, huh? We have to learn from all of the Quits.....the successful and the disappointing. And you are so right...those that do slip could simply vanish. They certainly do not have to sign in and admit that they have slipped. But, by coming back and exposing their weakness, it is a desperate call for help. At least it was when I busted my butt. Stay Strong!! Wow, this has been an interesting thread to read! In more ways than one! I definitely feel that those who come back after a slip are entitled to encouragement rather than censure - especially since the slippers (the ones I've seen anyway) are MUCH harder on themselves than anyone else could be here. I also feel, though, that if you slip, you should reset your meter, but I understand that here it is left to the user to make that choice for themselves, so I respect the house rules. (But it's still my opinion that they should!) And then...
The reality was, I had a "planned slip," if there is such a thing, at the end of January. I intended to smoke to see if I found it revolting after 3 months. I smoked, and to my horror, I was not revolted in the least.
Reading that gave me SUCH a strong crave! I actually sat here for a few minutes, contemplating having myself a little planned slip so I could test it out and see if I would be revolted or not. (Yeah, planned for about 10 minutes from now, or as long as it takes me to get to a store, whichever is less.) I'm happy to report that my rational self won out and convinced my not-so-rational self that that would be a stupid idea. :p Sooooooo... I would have to say that maybe I should be avoiding posts that talk about slippage myself. From now on, I think I will.
