I dont know if any of yall remember me posting about my co-worker/best friend, Dee. Anyway, she was the one that got me to quit smoking. She said that she was going to quit on January 1st, and so I said, Okay, Ill quit with you, and then my husband and I quit, but she didnt. Then we went on several trips together and I posted about what it was like to be off out of town with a smoker while I was protecting my quit. Then both Dees husband and my husband went with us on a week-long trip to Kansas City. It was cold and it snowed three days out of seven and they stayed inside most of the time, in their (smoking) hotel room while my husband and I enjoyed our newfound ability to BREATHE, venturing out into the cold and snow to explore an unfamiliar city. Ive tried to be very careful about NOT pushing Dee about quitting smoking, because if she perceives any kind of pressure, shell just NOT quit just to be rebellious, ya know? She bought some lozenge-things, but then she read the label and realized that she probably cant have them (shes diabetic). She said shed wait until after shed seen her doctor to start taking them, but then put off making the doctors appointment. Shes been having some trouble keeping her sugar level stable, so she finally made a doctors appointment, but she said she probably wasnt going to talk to him about the lozenges after all because she needs to concentrate on getting her sugar under control before taking on the stress of quitting cigarettes. Dee lives in a house where there are three other smokers smoking (her husband, her cousin, and her cousins daughter, who is 19 and has two children) and so the prospect of quitting all by herself was definitely one she considered as stressful. Okay, so now Dees husband is out of town, up in Michigan for a month, to visit his grown kids up there. Dee is here at home and shes been sending him cartons of cigarettes (not sure why, maybe theyre cheaper down here?). He called her over the weekend and said to her, Stop sending the cigarettes. As soon as I finish the last pack I have, WE are quitting. (WE meaning him and her.) She told me that he went on to say that he and his son had a long heart-to-heart and at the end of this talk, her husband

I'll keep my fingers crossed for your friend too SammiJo. I don't have red hair but I know I probably wouldn't have taken too well to being TOLD I was going to quit. However, if her good friend (You!) and her Hubby are both quit, maybe that is just the motivation she needs to get going!
