I have successfully been smokefree for 4 weeks. Someone close to me asked me what contributed to my success thus far. I think quitting smoking requires a combination of things, but the biggest contribution is the strength of my heart. I was done killing myself and harming my body. Living finally became more important than dying to soon. Let's face it, when we quit our mind and body try to talk us out of quitting. But our heart never fails us..... Do I have cravings...you betcha (mind and body). Do I wish I didn't have to quit....you betcha (mind). Can I smoke and be healthy....absolutely not (body). If I continue smoking, will I be a burden to my kid's and family....most likely yes (body). Will they have to watch me deteriorate and die right before their eyes...most likely yes (body). Do I want to see the pain and tears in their eyes as I slip away from them from a smoking related illness.....I can't bare that thought (this is my heart). To fight this addiction, I needed to have heart. Because in our hearts beats enough strength to do anything we set our minds to. Right now, I am still healthy enough to make the choice for myself. I'm not going to let my addiction make the choice for me. I have learned that the addiction needs to be fought on all fronts. In your mind, in your body, but most importantly, in your heart. In my heart is where I carry my strength. My family and loved ones, and my love for myself all reside in my heart. It is there I find the strength to start each day smoke free. One day at a time, never to have another puff ever again, because I put myself first finally, and I allowed my heart to over power my mind and body. Everyone has this strength. You just have to dig a little to tap into it. Anyways, this is where I stand at 4 weeks. I'm going strong and I'm committed to being smoke free forever. In my heart, I know I can do it even if my mind and body try and trick me...my heart remains strong, I just needed to listen to it to realize all the strength it had. Protect the quit!!! Kaitilina, You have a way of putting things simply and clearly when most of us try to complicate the cornflakes! LOL!! Keep on doing what you're doing, you have it in you to do anything you want in your life. I admire your spirit and your heart. WOW! Well, that about sums it up. A simple question got you to really think about the reasons for quitting. I had to ask myself the same question about 5 months ago. I hold that reason close to my heart and I dug really deep to keep this quit (and clung to some here for dear life). YOu are right that everyone has the strength to quit, its a matter of haw much you want that quit.
