Grief

yes, there is a grief for some of us. It's crazy, but it's real. It's a grief not only for the smoke, but the ease of grabbing that shield. Give yourself some time with it. You've got a brand new day ahead of you and a clean slate for how you're gonna deal with it. You're gonna be just fine. Congrats on slamming HELL week. HECK week should be easier for you. Hi Susie, Yeah, I had the blues at the beginning, too. I think this is all part of the healing process. Compared to grief, you're right - this goes away much quicker. Keep up the good work, hon! Thanks for the support.....yes my reward was a pack of hard candy. Before embarking on this quit, I lost 21 lbs because I knew my appetite would go wild. So I am trying not to substitute food for the little monster. So far so good. Funny thing, it's only when I slip and substitute that I get a real bad crave. It's great being clean....in more ways than one. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/31/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 260 Amount Saved: 60 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 3 Mins: 12 Seconds: 35

Hi everyone. I was trying to figure out what I was feeling so that I could do something about it. I realised that the feeling was the same as when I lost my 2 much loved pets some years ago. At first I would wake in the morning and they were on my mind from the time I opened my eyes until I went to bed.My tummy was upset and I had a tightness in my chest and throat. Gradually over time the feelings became less intense and eventually I could think about them without breaking up. Now years later I still have the occasional thought which causes a real pang inside but it goes. So the point is I am obviously grieving for my old habit. HOWEVER......NO WAY do I feel the same about that as I did my pets so hopefully the process will be quicker. What is there to be sad about??? Better health, cleaner home, more money, more confidence, better social life,no fear. This cannot last for ever so I'm digging my heels in. My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/31/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 248 Amount Saved: 60 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 53 Seconds: 25

We grieve because we are addicts, there is nothing more complicated about it. The "fix" soothed the savage beastie...his craving for nicotine would sink below the crisis level for a spell when we smoked....we learned to mistakenily associate this with pleasure, relaxation, social ease, etc. Of course those feelings are coming from your addictive self and in no way are they true.....you will find that quitting actually "eases" some of those feelings once you get through withdrawal. and yes there's a vast difference in your pets and your addiction. Your addiction will KILL you as it fondly pats your shoulder and whispers sweet 'lies'. So continue to hang tough...the greiving will pass once you begin to SEE the addiction.
