Why Am I Doing This To Myself????

18 years ago 0 983 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Katy, Very well put...."getting control" is exactly the phrase I needed to hear. Dunedad, I agree...the thought of inhaling anything into my lungs just doesn't sound good to me at all at this point, and I don't every want to smell like that again. I LOVE the way I smell now, and I use way less perfume (LOL)...when your a smoker, you "overuse" perfume to cover up the smoke smell, in reality, we just smell like "Ode to smoke". I had a GREAT time Friday night and going out with non-smoker's was just the ticket. When I woke up Saturday morning, although I was a little tired ;) (did you know you can order long Island Ice Tea's without the mixer....YIKES!), I woke up smoke free...not ONE PUFF!!!!! It's a great feeling! The age old question...why am I quitting smoking. This is way to hard, there is no way I can do this. Lot's of people smoke until their very very old. I just NEED TO SMOKE!!! I'll just have one right now, throw the rest of the pack away and quit again. ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! and feelings of just utter dispair! How many of you have asked yourself the same question? WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF? and really not have an answer? I've had this question pop into my head over the past 48 hours several times. I think I found my answer to the above questions. I'm doing this to myself because I'm done being an addict. I'm done being addicted to nicoteen, and I'm done being controlled by a drug. It's time I grew up and took control. I may not realize it right this second. But this is a fight to get my life back. Any fight is never pretty...it's hard...it's rough...and it hurts. But when it's worth fighting for...we have to be willing to take the punches and jabs. When will we win? I think we win everytime we fight off a crave, a thought or the bad days. We win when the mouth sores clear up and our sense of smell comes back. We win when our breathing improves and exercising doesn't put us into asthmatic fits. We win when our lungs have healed themselves so much that our chances of life threatening diseases have diminished considerably. We have many many victories in this fight. I think sometimes we forget that when things get hairy and we get caught in the "right now!!!!" Just my thoughts for today as I battle my demons (punching them very hard right now!! LOL) To all of you who think I need a reward and a treat...I'm way ahead of you: My girls have planned a night out tonight...all non-smoking girlfriends. They are ready to make me laugh until my belly hurts because they know it's been a rough week for me. What a great reward for making it through!!! Chocolate martini's for everyone and one designated driver! Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Have to admit Kait - I have asked myself that question more than once. Sometimes I even fantasize about the old days when we didn't know how bad smoking was (or we didn't care) and when smoking was common and "acceptable". At these times I tend to forget the period in between, where my addiction took more and more control over my life. Smoking is not an option. I wish there was an easy way to do this. Sometimes it really seems so hard but then I have to remember how far we've come. It would be so much harder to start all over again.
