How long were your failed quits?

18 years ago 0 47 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I've had many quit attempts, but the two biggest more serious ones lasted 6 months and 5 months each. This is not to be a negative post, but a worning to us that think we may have it beat at 25 days, 50 days, or 100 days. How long was your longest failed quit? Years ago, I quit twice... one for a year and a half, and another time for 3 months. I apologize for the words "failed quit" I couldn't think of better wording at the time, but I really like pratice runs! 11 years. not proud of it. It doesn't matter for how long you have quit. as soon as you take that cig. again, it is like the quit never was and you are again a smoker- fighting with the addiction. Other quits have been for as long as two weeks or 3 months. My most recent quit was 25 days ago and it lasted 40 days. I've had a number of quits but only 2 serious ones. The first lasted for about 9 weeks. The second lasted 17 weeks. Neither of them I count as failures becuase I learned a lot about quitting during those attempts. The biggest lesson I learned was to be ever vigilant - as time passes its right to feel a confidence about your quit however mine turned to complacency and I beleived I could have just 1 - and down the slippery road I went. I'm on 101 days now and fully intend to keep this quit forever. All the best to you Sharon Belfast My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 101 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,013 Amount Saved: 271.69 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 12 Mins: 38 Seconds: 12

I also will not think of my previous attempts as failures. I have learned so much from those experiences. My shortest - a couple of hours. My longest - 107 days. Never give up trying. If it weren't for the people on this site I'd still be trying instead of quit! I quit for a year once and for 3 months once, and various other times lasted a few hours or a day or two. I call them Practice Runs rather than Failed Quits. :) But don't you think we have a great advantage now, being so much more knowledgeable about addiction and also having this great support group? Our chances of success are vastly increased, but it's still up to us to do the work.
