As a newbie on this site, I don't quite understand what the Instant Messenger thing is and how it works. Is it related to putting people on your buddy list?

The SSC Instant Messenger is just like any other instant messenger with the exception that it connects you with the members of our site. To launch the SSC IM go to the forums and click on the blue LAUNCH icon.
