Help! Bad reaction to Paxil CR

21 years ago 0 6 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My new doctor told me that people with panic attacks shouldnt use any of the serontonin reuptake inhibitors as they may trigger panic attacks. He beleivs this iswaht happened to me recently when given Lexapro for genealized anxiety. He now has me on heavy doses of Klonopin to knock out the panic. Im also reading a book called Master Your Panic by Denise Beckfield. I thnk he'll start lowering the klonopin as time goes on.

I don't know about Paxil but I take zoloft and my anxiety was terrible the first couple of weeks. I actually told my husband I think my anxiety is worse since I started the medicine. Come to find out with zoloft or maybe other medicines, your anxiety will increase in the beggining and then go away. I am NOT a doctor, I think you should find out if Paxil is like that.(increased anxiety in the beginning) I actually only had 2 panic attacks in my life, the second one I had was 2 weeks into taking zoloft, I called the doctor and told him I need something I am freaking out. He gave me a prescription for xanax, which I am proud to say, I haven't had to take one in about 2 or 3 weeks. take care hang in there maybe ask about xanax too until the paxil kicks in.

Michele I do had bad anxiety from Paxil CR. I only took it for about a month. Since you have been taking it only a short time, I doubt you will have any withdrawal symptoms. What you can try, is to take a pill every other day until you see your doctor.

I just talked to my Doc's nurse and she said he wants me to increase my medication!?!?!?! What the?? :quest: It's making me feel terrible and he wants me to take even more. The nurse said that sometimes when it's not enough medicine, there can be symptoms like mine. I find that hard to believe. I don't think I can put myself through that. I see my psychiatrist next week, hopefully I'll still be alive by then. :( Michele

Thank you for the reply Tawny. I wondered if the increase in anxiety was just me but the part that really has me scared is waking up from severe panic attacks. Last night I woke up and was so dizzy I could not see straight, everything in my visual field suddenly started shaking and I couldn't even move. I was scared beyond anything I have ever experienced before. After it passed I took a lorazepam and was finally able to sleep, though fitfully. I spoke to my doctor's nurse who thinks I should stop taking the meds, but I want to talk to my doctor first and if he wants me to stop I hope the withdrawals aren't too much for me to handle. Again, I thank you for your reply. Michele

Yes, Even though it suggests you do not stop taking it, I have without any withdraw symptoms. However, your increased anxiety may not be caused by the Paxil. If you can, try giving it another 5 days as it generally takes 2-4 weeks before you see any improvement. That certainly was the case for me. Hang in there!

I started taking 12.5 mg of Paxil CR 5 days ago but it has made my anxiety 10 times worse and has given me the worst panic attacks OF MY LIFE! I wake up so shaky, sick, and dizzy so that I can't walk or talk. I'm in a constant state of panic waiting for the next "wave" to hit me. I feel like I am going to die. I want to stop the medicine but am scared of the withdrawal symptoms. I called my doctor but still have not heard from him as to what I should do. Does anyone have any experience with stopping Paxil CR? Any help would be greatly appreciated for this nervous wreck! Michele
