fear of fear

Long time ago, before I knew anything about panic attacks, I figured out that I was basically "fearing" fear. It sounds so stupid, but that's how I feel sometimes. If you think about it, you are actually fearing an emotion or feeling, and a feeling can't hurt you. It's not real. A feeling can be changed. Reality, such as the weather, cannot be changed. I'm working hard not to be afraid of fear, somedays are better than others. I agree about positive thinking. A book called "The Power Of Positive Thinking" by Norman Vincent Peale has been very helpful to me. And I was a hard case, positive thinking took a very long time for me to start to master. Practicing it is what helps in the long run. Do it whether you think it's working or not. Remember you aren't alone, I understand how you feel very well.

Ann, I know what you mean. I still have some trouble with negative thinking. You just have to try to squash them before the fear gets full blown. I know it's hard, but being positive and feeling positive does help some. Good Luck! Barbara :)

Thank you Barbara, I try to be positive but the negative thoughts always win.

Hi Ann, What has really helped me is to think positive and stop the negative cycle. I have seen that by being positive and thinking positive your thinking changes and thus conquers some of the fear. Believe me I am one of those people that has a fear of the "FEAR!" The fear will always get you if you let it. You need to stop that kind of thinking by positve self talk and thinking. Barbara :)
