I have been a smoker for 35 years, and this is my fifth quit (and many "minor" attempts in between). Like you, I'm determined that I will succeed this time. I have tried cold turkey, Zyban, NRT gums, ... but failed! This time, I used an NRT inhaler and occasionally, small pieces of NRT lozenges ... So far so good (but still with many craving moments).
One thing I have learned, before I started this quit is: I must be patient and be gentle to my body .
Being patient means an understanding that this road to recovery is arduous and full of tricks (that nicodemon is not easy to overcome), and I cannot kick that long term habit in one hit, but it might take several weeks or months to succeed ...
Being gentle to my body is to recognize the real pain of physical withdrawals and calm it down by many possible ways, including any suitable NRT aids. This time, I told myself that I would hang on to those NRT aids as long as necessary and only listen to my body, not any one else.
Cheers,
nmc
