2 years back I read through these boards as I was in serious nicotine withdrawl, and it helped. I read the stats parade forum to be motivated, to be where the folks who have quit have come. I realised, at the time, that I was not alone, and that there were many (just like me) who sought freedom from the addiction, and that the battle can be won.
Yes, I was a hopeless addict to cigarettes, and even to this day I still get the odd cigarette thought - so I stay on guard. I say "a thought", instead of a craving, as the actual cravings I suffered in withdrawl were gone (on memory) within the first few weeks.
I quit by using zyban - it worked for me. I was a heavy smoker for 20 years.
But what I'm really here to say is this: I know there's a number of folks out there who lurk these boards and who are not even registered. I know you're seeking support from people who are just like you. And you need to know that you too can quit.
If a guy like me, who was hopelessly addicted to cigarettes, with a heavy habit, can quit, then you can too.
Take care all.
Mark.
