i agree that tobacco companies should be blamed for a lot but we should blame ourselves too. no one forced us to pick up the cigarettes and smoke. the best thing we can do is send a message to the tobacco people by not buying the cigarettes anymore, that way they can' get rich off our misery.

I feel the same way. We need more educaton too and starting early with our tiniest of children. I don't want to become Militant ex-smoker but I will be with my child. I have never spent so much time reading about how terrible and far-reaching nicotine addiction really is as I have in the past 6 days. Philip Morris in an internal report likens nicotine to COCAINE in both its composition and its effects on the brain. The report states that nicotine has a "similar, organic chemical" to the drugs cocaine, morphine, quinine and atropine, and that "while each of these substances can be used to affect human physiology, nicotine has a particularly broad range of influence." They even opposed legislation in the US that would have allowed the FDA to regulate the tobacco industry. Now, I don't know about anyone else but I seethe when I read stuff like that. It strengthens my resolve to refuse to ruin my health first and foremost, but also to refused to allow a corporation to profit from my poor health. I can't even imagine the type of person it takes to run a company that profits off the misery of others. I wonder how it feels for tobacco executives to discuss how to better market their "product". How could you look into the eyes of your children knowing what you do? I liken their jobs to that of thugs and drug dealers. They profit off the misery and weakness of others. To participate in the deaths of millions of people, the greed must be so strong. Their addiction to money must be as strong as my addiction to their product USED to be. Have to agree.........It makes me angry that so many people spent so much time trying to make sure that I was an addict. I know I smoked those cigarettes when I was 15....which meant that I was an addict before I was old enough to drive, drink or vote. (It's amazing that it was legal for me to choose an addictive drug but not legal to vote) Now...it's time for me to take control back...and it is my choice to quit. Just remember....it's still EACH person's "choice" to smoke....Even without such dire warnings when I started??? I KNEW smoking was NOT a good thing. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out....Do you remember your first smoke??? I do....how it burned, made me cough, made my eyes water, my mouth tasted like a sick camel died in it. Geez...the SHEER STUPIDITY of making a CHOICE to do it again.....and again.....and again.........I really can't blame anyone but good ole SELF Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1830 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 73,225 Amount Saved: $10431 Life Gained: Days: 241 Hrs: 10 Mins: 11 Seconds: 45
