How long is the weight gain????

17 years ago 0 2631 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Freedom - I used to go to the gym but only twice a week. I have upped my cardio alot plus I am starting to challenge myself more joining classes and activities with the Killer Fitness Instructors. In addition to pushing me harder with the cardio, they are also adding alot more weight training (cardio to weights to cardio to weights) I honestly could never have done this when I was a smoker. Even now they are killing me but as long as everybody else is suffering along with me, it's kinda fun.. I go to a gym with a fitness instructor who is almost as deadly as cigarettes...As soon as you think you can't do anymore, she makes you do another 20...But I have to admit, she did get the metabolism working again. This young lady was extremely heavy and she's a svelte fit instructor now! (So I guess there's hope) Windy My Milage: My Quit Date: 9/11/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 192 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,856 Amount Saved: $960 Life Gained: Days: 18 Hrs: 18 Mins: 47 Seconds: 2

Ive read that when you smoke you have a faster metabolism because your heart/lungs work harder, You quit your metabolism slows......it will always be slower.....its now normal but slower than your used to. As long as your not snacking to cut out cravings then the best thing you can do is exercise, the more muscle tone you have the faster your metabolism has to go to maintain it so you kind of get the higher metabolism back. The most important thing is your quit though hun :) well done and good luck. I was just curious how long the "quit smoking" weight gain lasts???? Anyone know? I've been working my tail off and have done nothing but maintained, so I thought well, maybe I'm close to the point to where the post smoking era weight stops its war its waged against me, I will lose weight!! Hi Sugar - I gained during the first three months (I have to admit that I was eating alot more despite working out)...Started to lose in the 4th month when I adjusted eating habits. During the first three months every time I cheated I gained weight...but now I seem to get away with a bad day here and there. You are doing great - 48 days, no weight gained and getting fitter all the time! Good for you. Oh I just wanted to add that I am still in the process of losing the weight that I gained. It seems that my metabolism is slower now and I can't lose the weight that quickly like I used to. It is a whole new life to get used to. But don't be discouraged, I now have almost a year under my belt and the weight gain was totally worth it. I went through so many ups and downs. There were times I didn't care and ate everything in sight and then I would eat healthy and then go back to eating everything. I'm still learning how to adjust after almost a year. It will get easier as time passes but holding on to your quit is the most important thing right now. If you do happen to gain a little weight, don't sweat it and stay positive. Your body will balance itself out. I gained pretty much my first 9 months. I didn't know how to adjust to not smoking and pretty much ate a lot more. I also got really lazy and didn't go to the gym which I did before I quit. My life was really wacky and I was very frustrated at my situation. I had no idea how to live and deal with anything not smoking. Hopefully if you continue to work out and eat healthy, you are not going to gain weight. It was a hard adjustment for me.
