Is my meter a dud?

I am not sure what exactly they use as th formula, but I know it takes into account how much you smoked daily, if you are male or female and your age. Check your settings and make sure that you have set it properly My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/15/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 463 Amount Saved: $148.5 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 7 Mins: 36 Seconds: 49

I've been using my Quit Meter as a source of inspiration. But, one thing is troubling me...why is my "Life Gained" so slow/low? I look at other people who have "not smoked" the same total as me and are around the same quit date, and they've already earned over a day of Life Gained. ? changing....I like the little silkquit meter....it will run in your taskbar "all" the time if you so desire. A simple google search will turn up where to download it. some of the meters base the life gained on how much "time" you were spending smoking? they calculate how long it takes to smoke a cig and multiply that times the cigs you havent' smoked. others use complex formulas to arrive at the life you have gained/saved.....your "time" does seem a bit less??? try the silkquit one and see what it says I think it is different than the site meter but have never really compaired them before....guess I will take a look after I post them both. The Life Gained methodology in our quit meter was developed by researchers, clinical scientists and behavioral psychologists and is based on recent life expectancy data. A person's life expectancy is estimated by calculating the mean number of remaining years of life within a large group of similar persons of the same age. Life expectancy is not the predicted survival time for that particular person, but the average survival time of similar persons. It is now widely accepted that smoking results in a substantial increase in mortality rates, and thus a decrease in life expectancy. We cannot speak for any of the other quit meters, but many of them are based on a set variables. Our Life Gained methodology is much more sophisticated and is based on a number of variables such as your sex, your age, number of years that you smoked, and how old you were when you quit. Sometimes our stats may jump around a bit as the amount of life that you gain changes as you age and as you remain smoke-free. Other quit meters are more linear, which means that they do not account for all of the complex variables that the SSC Quit Meter does. One thing that all quit meters do tell us is that you most definitely increase your life expectancy when you quit smoking! Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
